Exclamation New to atkins. A couple of questions.

Hi everyone! I just started atkins today and I was wondering a couple of things.

Is Italian Sausage ok to have? I was wondering because it says it has sugar on the label, but it probably isnt too much. Still sugar is bad right? Also what about Salami? Is Salami cool or no? Thanks to anyone who replys.

I would say dont eat it. THose are also high in sodium and calories. THey are highly processed, it probably wouldnt hurt you to eat them every once in a while, but deffinatly not on a daily basis (in my opinion, alot of people on this board eat it).

When starting out on induction it is best to avoid EVERYTHING that is NOT on the acceptable foods list.
Just to make sure you do it properly adn get the best results.

I won't eat that stuff. Not only do I read the carb, fiber, sugar count. I also read the fine print. If it has the words sugar, corn syrup, frutose, brown sugar, nitrates. I won't touch it.
And in INDUCTION it says,
**processed meats, such as ham, bacon, pepperoni, salami, hot dogs and other lucheon meats - and some fish-may be cured with added sugar and will contribute carbs. Try to avoid meat and fish products cured with nitrates, which are known carcinogens. Also beware of products that are not exclusively meat, fish or fow, such as imitation fish, meatloaf and breaded foods. Finally, do not consume more than four ounces of organ meats a day.

While some of these foods are marginally acceptable in a pinch, as in there is absolutely nothing else to eat for miles and miles, as pointed out it's best to avoid them, especially during Induction.

One thing I found Induction does and does well, is it cleanses not only the body of all the carby stuff, but completely cleanses the pallette! By the time you're finished going through Induction you'll most likely find you never dreamed that real honest-to-goodness food tasted so good!

If you get to really wanting sausage, Whole Foods has a great line of chicken sausages with no nitrates or sugar. They have a wide variety of flavors. I have also seen some at Trader Joe's, but they are not as tasty.
