Default Egg Yolk Fast - Help Needed

Hi, I've been in a stall for a few months and I wanted to try something to lose the excess body fat I gained after I stopped eating a high protein, low carb, low fat diet. I decided a few days ago to go on an Egg Yolk Fast to jumpstart ketosis and the fat burning process, but so far I think I've only lost water and not inches. I'm worried I might actually be putting on weight. Has anyone ever tried just the yolks and not the whole egg? I decided on it because of its high fat, low protein and low carb content. The percentage breakdown is 80% fat, 15% protein, 5% carb. Would other people suggest the egg fast instead, or just a fish fast? I'm really stuck and I would appreciate as much feedback as possible. I was also wondering, say I switched to just eating fish all of a sudden (high protein), would I gain weight after eating very high fat in the last few days? Once again, thanks for the help.

Just my humble opinion, but I wouldn't recommend ANY fast. Maybe try a very strict Atkins Induction.

If you've only been doing this for a "few days," the only thing you COULD be losing is water. No way you're going to lose inches in a matter of a couple days.

Again, only my opinion.

I do know how frustrating stalls can be. How about upping your exercise? Some people do better upping their carbs -- but veggies only, not fruit or grains. Other people swear by drinking even more water.

Good luck. I'm sure others will chime in with advice.

I agree with Bawdy. I am very skeptical of fasts b/c it seems that so many people just gain it all back once they resume regular low carb eating. I have always found it helpful when I am stuck to do a few days of very strict lower calorie, moderate carbs (60g or so). This seems to get my body back into weightloss mode and then I am able to resume a more normal caloric level. I only do this for at most 3 days, b/c I don't want my body to adjust to that low of calories. I guess you could sort of think of it as calorie cycling, and I know many have success with carb/calorie cycling when they've hit stalls. You may want to check out the General Low Carb section of this board. Good luck!

Me three. Chances are there's something specific you're eating that's slowing you down, and doing an (x) fast won't help you figure out what it is. Plus, it's not conducive to good nutrition. How doing what Bawdywench suggested: strict induction? Better yet, Atkins KIS. That stands for, "Keep It Simple". It's induction minus the common stallers - dairy, soy, artificial sweeteners, etc. You eat only unprocessed meat, plain fats (coconut oil, olive oil), eggs and LC vegetables. Boring, but it usually works. Then you can test the waters on the dairy and artificial sweeteners.

You're already at the low end of the healthy weight range for your height, and the problem with trying to go down below that is that whatever you do to get there, you'll have to do forever. I wish you luck, though.

Default Anyone Else on the Egg Fast?

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. I switched to the egg fast yesterday and things do seem to be moving again. I will switch to strict induction after a few days. I think I've finally broken my stall and hopefully I should lose a few inches in the next couple of days. I would really appreciate some feedback, negative or positive, from those who have done the egg fast, or from those currently trying it out.

Thanks once again to all three of you, Bawdywrench, WendyOH and Kristine, for taking the time to answer my questions. I hope all is well.

Rebecca

Rebecca, you might try posting your question on the General Low-Carb Support forum-- it gets more traffic than the Protein Power forum.
