Default Advantage Bars during Induction?

Just a quick question...is it ok to have an Atkins Advantage bar during the Induction Phase? I'm on day 11.

I meet my friends at a local cafe every Tuesday morning for coffee (I drink unsweetened green tea). Naturally the cafe specializes in baked goods. Knowing how hard it might be to resist my wicked old ways I stopped at a store and bought an Advantage bar. Sure enough, during our chat as my friends nibbled on scones and breads, I felt hungrier and hungrier so I whipped out my bar and ate about 1/8th of it. It was enough to completely satisfy me.

But I'm feeling a bit guilty. Should I?

Thanks!

If you were in the habit of eating them twice a day, I'd say "yes." But it sounds like you're respecting them and only using them in an emergency, and I'd say that was an emergency. Good for you. That's how they should be used. Hey, it helped you resist the sugary junk food!

...just don't stray too far from the bathroom! The sweeteners can be a powerful laxative.

They have sugar alcohols in them that stall some. If you don't lose while eating them = that would be the first thing to remove from your WOE but it sounds like you utilize them well.

All the best...

You might also consider buying an Atkins mix for Blueberry muffins (or others). You can make a batch and freeze most of them. That way you can pull one out before your next gathering and enjoy it with some butter. I like them and find they do not stall me the way bars do. You'll want to wait until after Induction though...

Thanks for your help! I'll look into the Atkins muffin mix when I get off Induction. In the meantime I won't monkey around too much with the bars.

By the way, I brought my new Atkins book with me to the cafe and sort of left it out on the table. Sure enough, people picked it up and leafed through it and raised the usual eyebrows. But when I told them that I've lost 6 pounds in almost two weeks, along with losing my chronic stomach aches, AND that I've got more energy, well they got interested.

One of my very dear friends has well over 100 lbs to lose, and she has diabetes, but she is very resistant to the notion of 'dieting.' Guess what...she took my book home to read it. I told her that if she was interested I would do this with her.

I know...I have less than 25 lbs to lose now, and she has over 100. But I'm not going back to my old way of eating so I think I can be of support to her. What do you think?

Thanks again!

I think you can be VERY supportive to her, especially when it comes to dealing with uninformed people who are anti-low-carbing. You can be supportive by talking about your problems together and working out ways to solve them. You can possibly exercise together. I think it is admirable that you WANT to help your friend.
