Default Saying Hi to All !!!!

Hello to all!!!!

I am so glad I found this forum - it has already been a help to me .

I am from Palm Springs, Ca. - and do so enjoy seeing all the posters from Canada and eastern cities and from all over. I love communicating with people from different countries and states - It makes me feel --- well ..... 'cosmopolitan' .

Getting to the 'way of Lcarb eating - I was on Atkins in my 30's (not all of my 30's) and was very successful with it . Left it and was o.k. as I was in a very active time of my life - doing alot of physical work - walking , mountain trails somewhat loving life - the kek word is 'active' so I did not have a problem with weight after getting it in control with Atkins. In my forties - I was working two jobs and one of them happened to be in a country club that had wonderful snack and chocolate 'stuff' . In the morning I worked at another country club - where we had fresh dougnuts every morning at 6:00 and every other indulgence one could think of - well to say the least - even tho working to jobs from 6 to 10 at night - I began to put it on and became very uncomfortable (once again) so that time I tried O.A. How and it worked - I only did the 'first' part , two weeks or so and I dropped 14 lbs and that was it .. I stopped and had job change and life change (once again) and was able to keep the 'stuff' pretty much out of my life as I was no longer 'working' around it.

To cut to the chase -- I am now 59 or will be this year and I am taking care of my Mother , who is 89 - I have not been working for the past year - and have been less active than ever in my life. I feel you 'know' the rest of the story So , here I am - there is so much in my life that I cannot control - I smoke - can't stop - I have to take medication for bi-polar - I gained 10 lbs. from that , that made me 138 - I was o.k. there, some people said 'I looked better ' , however , getting back to this past year - now that has just shot up.. I must confess - I did not weigh myself three weeks ago when I began Atkins again - from memory. I assumed I was somewhere in the 154 to 152 range - I did not get on a scale until this week - big mistake - I found I was 144 - which is o.k. - but not knowing where I started from was a mistake .. And of course , all my weight settled in the horrible areas ---

Yesterday was a horrible day for me - I ate three handfuls of chocolate covered raisens - no , I am lying that was in the morning - in the evening I ate three more - I ate 'poppers' 4, during the day - so This morn - I so far have had an egg and coffee and water ...

I got off track - this was only supposed to be an introduction - and here I am going on and on - forgive me - I will sign off and get to another forum ...

Thanks for being here - you can only imagine my gratitude when I found this place by accident??

Hi Lillysmom!

Well as you said:

So do I

So, warmest greeting from a very snowy Republic of Belarus. (It's between Poland and Russia). This is a land where people eat between 3 to 10 times the amount of fat as in the west. There is little or no junk or processed food and carbohydrates are usually of the whole grain variety. Are the people fat? No they are not!

If ever you want any Eastern Europian low carb recipies I'm your man!

All the best.

Robert (a Brit in exile!)

Hi Lillysmom. ~~~Welcome~~~
Please check out the recipe boards for great idea...you might even find a few in there that contain chocolate . Have you thought of starting a journal...it is a great way to keep track of menus, ideas...If you have time you may want to check out a few journals yourself. As you can see, there are many boards to become active in/on. Enjoy.

What is Palm Springs like...sounds so exciting.

Default Yo Yo Journal & Palm Springs

Thanks for the welcome Cinderalla -

I did it - the Journal (the Yo Yo one ) - I started it today under stress - but knew it would be good for me . Actually it seemed to a necessity at the time - I am glad I did it - I feel more committed and less --- 'ON MY ON AGAIN' .

As far as Palm Springs - its a mixed bag - like everywhere. There are tons of golf courses - country club stuff , hotels . We have 6 Casinos now , this is all in the last 5 years. The main attraction , I think , is the weather and scenery. It is gorgeous!!! We are surrounded by mountains and different mountains - some look like real mountains , on one side of us and on the other they look like light chocolate hills - the sky is almost always blue and when we do have clouds it looks like Hawaii or a postcard from somewhere wonderful!!!

My family moved here in the 50's so , of course, I have population shock - ready to move to where? someplace -- I have to drive out of town now to 'see' the desert , oh , there are patches of it in places (that are not built on yet ) . Tons of condos - mobile home parks , which I live in . We have quite a few Canadians that love it here as our winters are so mild. It is still beautiful - its just that I miss the 'desert' - its all green now - and water , water everywhere - A new shopping center opened last year and they call it "The River" -- I was upset at the time - like, why in the heck come to the desert and put a river in a shopping center? Why not go to Florida ?? but thats me - obviously the majority want this stuff whereas I like the 'desert' . Our main industry is , as if you couldn't guess - tourism. It is changing from that , especially with the Casinos. People buy a place here then come back and forth during winters but as they get older they generally end up here and selling there other place. We have a big seniour population and tons of golfers. This is a physical picture of the place - just lightly - there is also a ' flavor', which I will go into if you want , but cannot right now as I have to go fix dinner for my Mom ( she is 89) .

If I go on too much , let me know , I do not mean to . No control like my uncontrolled eating , smoking etc.

I am journalling!! YIKES !!! what am I getting into ? Actually looking forward to it - to my dismay -

Thanks again for your encouragement and response and introduction to you and the great suggestion re: Journalling --
