Default another one for the experts

Yesterday was my 2nd monthly measure day in Curves for Women. Measurements after one month was a total zero in everything. This one is better. I lost a total of 8 inches overall. (2 abdomen, 2 waist, 1 hip, 1 arms, 2 chest). I can feel it on my clothes too. I lost 5 pounds but absolutely NO change in body fat. How can that be?

I eat enough, protein is adequate.
They have this chart of heart rate by age... they suggest you keep your target zone to avoid burning muscle instead of fat. Well, I do that, I keep my heart in their suggested target range for my age. (Not a spring chicken anymore )

When I asked the trainer she suggested I might be overdoing the water intake. 120+oz daily. Her explanation is that the machine they use to measure body fat (you grab it with both your hands) sends electronic pulses and measure things, If I'm overdoing the water it gets measure as fat and therefore the reading might be not accurate or bogus.

Well, of course what sounds bogus to me is not the fat reading but her explanation. but again, that might be just me and my need to find logic in everything.

So, if there such a thing like water overdose? Could I be burning muscle instead of fat? (I'm on ketosis by the way)
What gives?

CuteWolf...

I did Curves over the summer and personally, I don't really trust their body fat percentage meter at all. In the first month, it said that I had lost 8% of my body fat even though I had only lost 5 lbs. In the second month it said that I had gained 5% body fat even though I had lost weight again. If it's that touchy that excess water is measured as fat, it's not very accurate.
The measurements may not always be that accurate either. If a different person measures you each time, they may measure either higher or lower than the other person did. It's okay as a guideline, but I go more by how my clothes are fitting.
While I'm certainly no expert in the exercise department, what I think she meant is that when you go above your target zone, you are building muscle instead of burning fat (why they don't want you to build muscle is beyond me since muscle burns fat far faster). Curves seems to be a great way to exercise and get in better shape. I quit for now because now that school has started, their hours don't fit with my schedule at all.

I agree with you 100%. One thing is for sure... Inches are off as I'm wearing stuff now that didn't fit a few weeks ago.
Their water argument is what really puzzles me... I always thought you drink water, you pee a lot, done deal. water overdose... it just don't make sense.

It IS possible to overdose on water BUT you have to drink far more than 120 oz. in a day to do it (we're talking gallons here, not ounces). Athletes that exercise strenuously for a long time and marathon runners can develop hyponatremia (that's low sodium in the blood) when they quickly replace the fluids lost through sweating with plain water. Having done Curves workouts, I'd say it's pretty safe to say that you are in no danger of developing this problem after your usual workout there.
