Question Tim Hortons

I've noticed there are a lot of Canadian members on this forum and I wanted to ask thier advice. I live in the Detroit area and Tim Horton shops have started opening up around here. My kids love thier donuts (me too) and I was wondering if there is anything I can eat there or do I just have to hang tough and add an extra EQUAL to my decaf coffee. I've looked and have found nothing, I'm hoping I've missed something on or off the menu?

As I write this it sounds to me like a carb addict looking for a loophole? Donuts have always been my weakness. Maybe I'm better off going through the drive-thru and not going in at all. Any advice?

oooohhhh Tim Hortons...the biggest reason why I gained all my weight....A coffee and bagel with cream cheese just about every morning for 7 years, sometimes a sandwich, soup or chili and a bisquit at lunch...

If the Detroit menus are anything like the ones here, you'll be pretty much out of luck. The soups are all pretty thickened, even the clear broth ones, which means corn startch or flour. Donuts are definitely out. The only thing that I can think of is the veg and cheese sandwich, order it and toss the bun...but then you would be better off just having your own fresh veggies. Timmy's didn't have salads the last time I looked.

I personally wouldn't even trust their chicken salad, tuna salad or egg salad because you have no idea what kind of mayo they use. If they use a cheaper commercial brand, it can be bulked up with hidden carbs.

My advice....learn to drive right past a Timmy's...or if you really need a coffee, go thru the drive through. Walking into the store itself will be too much of a temptation.

LOL! Yes it does!

As time goes by and you get more comfortable with this WOE, you will be very comfortable strolling into any high-carb palace of doom. You will come to realize that there is something not quite right with all the doughnut eaters and you are the person that is normal and well on your way to health and well being.

But, it is hard at first.

Tim Horton's Apple Fritters were my downfall. I used to joke that my car had a mind of its own because every time I tried to drive past a Tim Hootie's .. the steering wheel would automatically turn in with no effort from me whatsoever

After I'd been low carbing - and not cheating - for about 6 months or so, I decided to "reward" myself with my once-favourite goody. I remember bringing that apple fritter up to my mouth, and the first thing to hit my nose was the subtle tang of burnt grease, permeating the apple-cinnamon scent. I began to have images of a great cauldron of seething, boiling oil .. trans-fat oil that had been heated and reheated over and over, and had so many zillion other donuts fried in it previously, that my apple fritter was little more than an amalgamation of every single thing that had been fried in that grease for the past week. When I took the bite ... there was no apple, there was no cinnamon, just this mouthful of sweet, sweet ... dough. It just didn't live up to my memory and anticipation at all. And it sure cured my craving!!!

After 2 years, I've lost my desire for sweets and can meet friends at Timmy's for a coffee with no temptation to indulge in more than just a cuppa. It's the smell of fresh baked sourdough bread that drives me wild, and I live downwind from a European deli/bakery

Hello all,

I used to work at Tim Horton's (yikes!), so I can honestly say that I couldn't care less about donuts!!! Having worked with that frying oil smell - yech! Anyway, regarding the mayo used for sandwhich fillings - stay away - they use Miracle Whip - tons of carbs/sugar.

Default Love Tim Horton's

That is one place I really really miss...I love the soup in a bread bowl...Total Carbs..but amazing..and the donuts are delicious...but I can live without it...My husband goes through teh drive through for coffee at least twice a day (he's a police officer and beleives he needs the caffine)...but when I go with him the smell travels from the drive thru window right into our car..tuff to resist!

Wink Tim Hortons

Hi:
The next time you are at Tim Hortons ask for one of their nutritional sheets. It has everything you would like to know. I keep one in my van for my DH who is on low fat due to a heart stent. Not me though and now I could care less for a donut or bagel Just a cup of coffee. Hope this helps. KRISTY

There's nothing low carb at Timmy's except black coffee.

I buckled the other day and had an iced cap. (It was hot and humid and I needed a caffeine fix! )

Sometimes when I go to Tim's I feel like I need something sweet with my decaf. So I pick up a sugar free chocolate bar or low carb protien bar and take it with me.
Altho...I try not to make a habit of this.
