Default Calcium

I just wanted to know, when taking 50,000 a week of D3, and daily 600 of magnesium, how much calcium do I need?
Is it a good Idea to get my cacium level checked... ? if it is in range is it still important to take the Calcium?

If I take 700 and eat 300, or more, is that ok to?

I have a memory back in 1991 someone told me I needed o take calcium, I have chest pains, and when I went inot work I aske the head nurse, and she said never take it unless your levels have been checked. I know I am 53 and have Ostopenia and tha was long ago.... I just get scard, I have 2 pills looking at me, and I swear they feel like a bmb ready to go off. And I take HCTZ and the constipation is bad enough and then add the calcium,. and, I may have to call roto ruter.,,,

For info, today I had 1348 calcium for my diet intake, pill that with 800 of calcium, I am way over, I think, why can't I just eat the food calcium? and escaped the addded constipation?

I took 250 tonight, I think the combined 1348 and 250 is alot for a day....

I can see that nobody is answering you here - why not post this question in the Vitamin D challenge thread? Zuleikka knows plenty about the ratio of vit D3 to calcium. I personally don't like calcium supplements and prefer to eat or drink my calcium, so I can't really help you.

Hope you have more luck with posting this question elsewhere.

Ideally, yes, it would be, but seeing as nobody seems to be popping in here at the moment, I thought you might have more luck on the Vitamin D thread...

Pity that you haven't got much of a response here...

Maybe there'll be more traffic again here soon, so I wouldn't give up on this sub-forum completely!!! I've posted questions here, I'm pretty sure, and had answers before. It just seems to be pretty quite here right now.

Sounds to me like your calcium intake is adequate. If you really want to up it, then drink bone broth regularly. Raw milk is a good source of calcium if you can get it.

How long have you been taking the large doses of vitamin D? It has been my impression for a long time now that vitamin D is THE main supplement to build bones and that calcium is a very distant second. Mineral absorption can be compromised by poor digestive health though. The solution to that usually involves cutting grains, especially wheat, and anything related to seeds (nuts, bran etc) from the diet to allow the digestion to heal. Cutting fiber helps too. You say "but the vegetables are where I get my calcium!" Yeah, that's why I mention the bone broth.

I eat cottage cheese, and LC yogurt, and cheese, broccoli and have been taking the 50,000 D3 just 1st dose last Sunday am.
My question was when my oc says to take 1000 of calcium. Is it ok to get 1,000 from diet and take the 450 from the pills?
I haven't any trouble with my digestion, just the constipation which is better since uping the magnesium. But that is caused by the HCTZ I take.
