Unhappy Gaining after five days?

I am so discouraged right now I want to cry!! Thursday morning I woke up , had lost a pound since the day before ` GREAT! That had me up to 6 pounds loss in just five days. I was exstatic. But.... I woke up yesturday ~ gained 1 pound back. This morning, another 2 pounds back! ACK! I thought I had eaten good yesturday. I am just so upset. NOW i know why others don't look at the scale daily ~ let alone the million times I do a day.

Someone please give me hope!

No, don't worry... it's probably water! I can gain back three pounds in one day if I've eaten something with too much sodium.

Are you eating processed meats or canned veggies?
I tried a little fast (basically I skipped lunch and brekkie one day) and WHOOSH! Not that you have to do that, just look at your sodium intake.

For me fake sugars can do that too

Don't get discouraged yet!!
If your eating foods with lots of sodium, that will do it for sure. Even when I don't eat a lot of sodium, I can be up 1 pound or so daily for no reason.
Steer clear of foods that might cause retention. Drink lots of water but mainly, be patient and hang in there.

I agree with everyone else.....don't get discouraged it is water retention. That hidden salt adds up. Make sure you drink plenty of water. If your body is thirsty it will hold onto whatever fluid you consume. You need to create a diuretic effect with water and drink drink drink until you start peeing peeing peeing. Then your body will balance out.

I ate some turkey polska kielsbasa the other day.....when I added up all of the sodium for that day from this and other stuff that I ate.....I had consumed 5,500 mgs.....about 5 times more then I should have. The next day I was 3 lbs. up so I drank water about 100 ozs. Next morning I lost that plus another lb.

Happens to me all the time. Just happened to me for the last two weeks! I thought I had blown my diet by adding one diet coke a day into my diet. I ended up going up about 3 lbs in the morning. At night I was up 6 lbs. On Friday it finally broke without me changing anything and I went down to 139.0 and this morning 138.8. I think the going up is a signal that you are about to experience a whoosh within a week.

Could also be due to your time of the month. I gained six pounds this month the week before my period (it probably didn't help that I had a few bites of a boston cream pie, LOL) and I was ready to give up - I'd been stuck for about a week and a half prior to that, already - but I woke up Friday morning and all six pounds were gone, plus a few more!

Just hang in there, and stop obsessing about the scale. You're not going to LOSE every day, or even every week. If you let yourself get worked up about numbers on the scale, your liklihood of success is going to drop dramatically.

Well... I went back to sleep this morning, remembered that the pj bottoms I had on were heavier then the ones I had been wearing, stripped those, I am just the same as I was yesturday! Shew! I agree about the scale obsession `even my kids are noticing! YIKES! I am NOT getting on that silly thing until Monday!
I drank alot of water yesturday before noon but then I got busy and didn't drink much water after that. Maybe that is my problem too.

Thanks for telling me that I haven't bombed it!

Uh, I weigh nekked... that way no fluctuations due to clothing (which usually weighs 3 to 5 pounds). I want to know every ounce that leaves!

Default Me Too!

Okay, not exactly -- I haven't gained 5 lbs, but I was down 4 in the first 2 weeks, up 1 three weeks in, and now I'm up 1 more after a month. (Meaning total lost 2 lbs in 4 weeks.)

HerbNurse, I thought it might be what you are saying, that sodium was causing me to retain water and that it would even out, but I would think that it would even out after 2 weeks! I drink a lot of water -- about 3/4 gallon/day. I also think I'm probably eating less sodium now than I was in the first week (though certainly more than I was before I began Atkins). I'm still on induction and planned to stay that way until I lost the first 10 lbs, but as with Sheila, I'm getting a little frustrated!

Any thoughts, suggestions? I've only been weighing myself on Saturday/Sunday -- I really thought last week was a fluke, but then I saw the 1 lb gain this morning. I am not a happy camper.

I know that I am going to start walking a minumum of 2 miles a day at home on the treadmill, and on alternate days hit the gym to do the elyptical and some light weights.

Oh... and I am gald that I have just gained the one instead of three and it is probably the sodium. Thanks! Went I went to the store today I bought some lower sodium bacon ~ still 0 carb .... and I really don't eat that much sausage.. so that will be easy to cut too. Thanks again for your encouragement.
