Default Induction--starving?

Hey all. Is this normal? This is my second day of induction and I am STARVING. I don't mean kind of hungry or even very hungry, I mean I am practically helpless crawling toward that fridge. It is just downright freaky. I have eaten ALL day...seriously all day. I just finished yet more food and I feel like I could eat again. I am almost in tears.

I haven't used a single non-induction food. I'm eating eggs, bacon, a couple olives, chicken legs (hot sauce only), fried mozzarella (I tried that one b/c I saw a recipe for it--you roll them in a tiny bit of parm)...a little raw cauliflwer with ranch dressing...etc. I mean the amount of food...God...I stopped logging Fitday at 2000 calories so I think I ate about 2500 calories today.

That is so much food--that would feed a grown man. A rather tall grown man. I'm a woman...five foot one.

I thought Atkins was supposed to cause appetite control...

first few days are tough then once you get into ketosis you will not be as hungry. i think part of it is also mental you are thinking about a new way to eat and what foods etc so it becomes more in the forefront of your mind than it will be later.

do whatever you can not to go off induction foods even at the expense of more calories for now. after 2 weeks id be more wary of calories but id be surprised if this continues. i think in 2 days you may not be hungry at all.

at least for me it seems to go that way. i cant eat 6 meals a day everyday anyhow even if i prepared it. I listen to how i feel daily. some days im starved and others not hungry whatsoever.

the good people here have already helped me to pay attention to calories but not at the expense of too many carbs. and sodium. and new recipes. and encouragement.

hang in there.

Once you get the sugar / carbohydrates out of your system, you won't be hungry! Really really Takes 3-5 days, so just hang in there. The great thing about induction is that you CAN eat whenever you're hungry, just make the right choices in food and you'll be fine!

LOL at day two!

This can very well happen.

The two weeks of induction should be enough to stabilise things in the end.

My advice is increase fat, with protein. This can help.

Lay off the cheese (Says me the cheese-aholic). It can cause compulsive behaviour during Atkins.

I agree - be careful with the cheese (dairy) during induction. Stick it out, you will get results!!!

Oh thank you so much, thank you, thank you!

LC_Dave, I LOVE Wallace and Gromit.

Okay, folks, I will stick with it. Well, I mean I planned on sticking with it anyway...but knowing that this could settle down a little over the next few days or a week will certainly help.

Just remember - your body is changing - into a bodyfat burning machine!

Your patience and attention to detail (clean foods only) will indeed be rewarded!

I agree with the others that this will probably fix itself once you get into ketosis. This wasn't the case for me, though. When I restarted induction in February, I was hungry for several weeks, even though I was in ketosis. Increasing the fat in my diet is what helped me become less hungry. My daily average works out to be around 1500 calories. Occasionally, I still get very hungry. On the first of this month, I had over 2700 calories. One day in April, I had over 3900 calories (all on plan), and I'm 5'0"!

I agree with ketosis, but I do want to point out another factor. Your stomach is a cavity and most likely if you have gained weight, it has been quite full. It does shrink and there is more space in that area, so you may feel hungry do to that as well. Your body has a way of getting used to less in there and it won't be as noticeable. I know if I binge for a day, even if it is on a huge steak, the following day I am more hungry due to me stretching my stomach. This feeling will pass. It may take days, a week or maybe two, but that isn't that long considering the results you will get. Tough it out, it is well worth it. I am on week two and do feel better already. Love getting over that first couple of weeks.

One thing I've found (this isn't my first time on atkins) is that you may be missing that "full feeling"-when your not filling up on carbs you don't feel "full". Satisfied is good enough...if your stomach isn't actually growwwling then probably your not really hungry, just maybe not FULL. Sometimes I get looks...like the look that says "omg are you really going to eat THREE eggs?" well yeah, i am cuz if you don't have toast and a big glass of milk to go with it...you don't feel full or satisfied, so ya increase the actual food and skip the carbs. And yes I also agree that on day two, its the whole induction/getting the toxins out of your body...you'll feel normal in a few days. Good actually...and lighter--I've just restarted a week ago and lost 9 lbs and only had 3 days of feeling yucky and I feel great now. I'm actually on vacation this week and have been up between 530-6:00 every morning since saturday even though I've been up till midnight-1am every night...the energy level is just awesome. Stick with it, you won't be sorry..the only regrets I ever have are going off this way of eating. I also had a major gain (30lbs) in a very short period of time due to being put on steroids but I've been off a few weeks now and ready to get rid of the weight! Have a wonderful day all!

I was starving on day 2 myself. I just made myself do something else so I didn't think about it so much. By day 5, I wasn't really even hungry for my regular 3 meals a day. Like today, I had to make myself eat a little something for breakfast, so I could get my metabolism going. I forgot to eat supper last night. I simply just forgot because I wasn't hungry.

Since I'm on vaca and not on my normal schedule, I have a couple of times not been hungry at mealtime either...but I thought maybe it was due to working outside in the heat or losing track of time or whatever but i did have to make myself eat...i was worried i would stall myself or worse, wake up starving in the middle of the night lol.

It's been happening to me, too! I started last Thursday (this is my second round with Atkins, after a couple years being off), and on Friday I was freaking out! I felt SO hungry, even stuffing myself with induction legal foods!!!

But relax-- it goes away, I promise. I leveled out mostly by Saturday night, and today I'm really fine. Tough it out, chomp on the legal stuff, drink a LOT of water, and it will go away!!

The appetite suppression should begin to kick in around day 3 or as late as day 7. Don't worry about how much you're eating as long as it's legal. These first few days are a real adjustment period for your body. Just do what it tells you to do...eat as much as you need to. Make sure you're eating your veggies/salads and dressing them with some fat. That may help.

I remember the first few days I scared myself with how much I ate. But then after a few days, I began to feel less hunger and eating less. Then, if overeating is a problem for you, you can begin to learn what "enough" feels like.
