Two things from the broadcast that stuck with me.

First, he spoke about proteinura (sp?), or protein in the urine. As some of you know, I worry about my kidneys somewhat, and Dr. B said it took his between 5 and 7 years to totally reverse (from a fairly advanced stage). Good to know!

Also, he targets A1c results for 4.3 to 4.6, I think. That is the numbers for a young, healthy, lean 20 year old. That's what I want.

Angry

I am hoping they recorded the broadcast so I can listen to it.

We ended up doing something else right at the time that the broadcast started. I missed it.

Dang.

Ralph, I'll check a little later, but you should be able to not only go to one of their sites and hear it, but download it.

I believe most labs don't even have 4.3 in their H1C range, low margin is 4.6%.
Is it really possible to have same health indicator as "lean and healthy 20yo" for middle age T2 diabetics? This translates to Bgs of 77-82. May work for T1 on insulin but it means spending a lot of time in hypoglycemic city .
Seems a bit like overkill, most labs consider 4.6-5.6 as non-diabetic range AFAIK ( DH is mild T2 with no medications), and 2 years ago it was <6% for non-diabetics. Hard to believe that general non-diabetic population fits into 4.3-4.6% range, even healthy 20 yo. I have read through this thread and this Dr.Bernstein seems to be very radical in terms of blood sugar control. I did not read his book though, is his approach easy to manage?
TX,
C.

It's been easy for me; 6 grams of carbs at breakfast, 12 at lunch and 12 at supper. He is a staunch proponent of using insulin, but understands not everyone needs, or wants to. He says that the mean average BG of a non-diabetic is 83, if I remember correctly.

Some feel he is unreasonable, but I think it's more that he believes that diabetics deserve a healthy, complication-free life, and being as "non" diabetic as possible is the best way to achieve that.

Wow, only 30 g carbs a day, it is quite low. I am a big believer in LC WOE but this seems just a bit higher Atkins Induction level. Great if it is working for you, not sure if DH can drop to this level. His dr. advised him not to eat less than 30 g per meal and 15 per snack, so he averages 100-120 daily. His last H1C was 6.0%. I guess he better read Dr.Bernstein book and see if he can adopt his plan.
Tx,
C.

I know it can be hard for some folks, but when I was diagnosed, my vision was so blurred I could hardly see, my feet hurt, sores were not healing, and I was drinking water like it was the end of the world. My dad was diabetic, and I remember well him getting his toe amputated; I don't want that for my life.

It's like I told my brother, when he insisted fruit and grains were needed for good health - whatever benefit I would get from eating those does not outweigh what I get from having normal blood sugars.

I wish both of you well, and I do realize not everyone has the same needs or desires, even.
