Default Nathan's famous hot dogs - MUCHO CARBS!!!!

I'm very depressed because I took my kids to see a movie today. The kids were eating popcorn and I was tempted to eat some, so instead I ordered 2 Nathan's famous hot dogs and ate them (without the bun), thinking I was following the diet. Imagine my surprise when I got home and looked up the carb count for these hot dogs - 23 carbs EACH! I ASSUMED they would be the same as other hot dogs. NOT!

That number HAS to include the bun, doesn't it? I cannot even imagine a hot dog weiner having THAT many carbs!

Yikes. I found two links for you:
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/54213.html
and
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/54198.html

One of them is a beef frank with ZERO carbs. The other is a hot dog with 22.7 carbs. Yikes. I wonder what its made with?

I can't find anything where it says with or without the bun on the internet. But the hot dog was larger than a regular store-bought hot dog?

I wouldn't think so either. But, I have to say, I sneak stuff in to places like movies so that I won't cheat either on purpose or accidentally. If the hotdog was that many carbs, don't stress, move on. I bet you are still in ketosis, because the highest carbs I have seen in a hotdog when reading packages was 8.

The 23 grams of carbs includes the bun.

Go to http://www.calorie-count.com/calori...acturer/51.html and click on Beef Frank, then on Beef Frank with Bun.

Mike,
Thanks for the link, but I had the hot dog - not the beef frank. If you scroll down on the link you sent me, you'll see "hot dog" and when you click on it, it shows 22.3 carbs (doesn't say it includes bun.)

I'll never eat another Nathan's famous "hot dog"!

To me a weiner is what goes in a hot dog bun. If you eat the weiner alone you are eating a weiner. A hot dog is a weiner in the bun.

On weiner packages it often says "hot dog weiners" the buns say Hot Dog Buns. I don't think that technically it's a hot dog until you put it in a bun.

So I'm pretty sure the hot dog count includes a bun, a weiner count would not.

ps - it's kind of like someone saying that ate a hamburger when they did not eat the bun. They ate the hamburger meat, or ground beef - they did not eat a hamburger.

Also, if you look at the counts for a hot dog when purchased at Miami Subs Plus (on the same link as Dodger provided) http://www.calorie-count.com/calori...acturer/51.html - it’s the same count as for a hot dog. I’ve never been there but I’m pretty sure they would serve there hot dog on a bun.

I have found what we are looking for..
http://www.dietfacts.com/html/items/9477.htm

This site says it includes the bun in the nutrition facts, and actually refers to it as a "sandwich" on the serving size. odd.. but now we know its with the bun!

This isn't really on the topic of Nathan's hot dogs, but Boars Head Beef franks are just fantastic. Zero carbs a hot dog. Can't beat it. Plus they're just delicious.

Nathan's hot dogs do have wheat in them. Just mentioning that for the celiacs out there.

I eat Boars Head 100% all beef in natural casing, light, low sodium frankfurters (long title but that is what they say). They contain NO Sugar and NO carbs and delicous!!

They are a little more expensive than the regular packaged weiners. They also don't sell them with the others...you can find them in the deli section with all the fancy packaged cheeses and meats. They come in connected links and there are 8 in a package. I could never ever eat a regular weiner by themselves until I tried these...OMG...they are sooo good dipped in yellow mustard.

Try them!

Steph

Dietz & Watson have beef franks w/ natural casing and no sugar that are zero carbs. Like Boars Head, they're pricey, but absolutely delicious!
