Default Addicted to sugar! Starting induction tomorrow.

Okay...so I'm a yo-yo dieter. I have lost hundreds of pounds (and gained hundreds) during my life. My main problem is...I am sooo addicted to soda and sugary drinks. I always seem to fall back on them during times of stress.

I've lost some weight, and I have 25 more pounds to lose to be at my goal. This seems like such a small task, but these last 25 pounds are kicking my rear! It's time to get serious.

So here I am again...on Atkins Induction again...hoping that this time I can make this low-carb way of eating a LIFESTYLE instead of a diet.

I know you guys have all been there before...and you've heard this story a thousand times before. I know you guys can relate. So...hello to everybody out there.

I've just re-read the Atkins New Diet Revolution book and am starting induction tomorrow.

Why do I feel so scared?????

Hi there. You're in the right place--lots of support here. There are lots of us here who have done the yoyo thing for years--and I can certainly relate to the addiction--as will others. I am a true carb addict, and breaking those addictions through a LC diet is the only thing that has ever worked. So when I restarted Atkins last January, and got through the induction flu, my mind was made up that this time it is a lifestyle.

As for feeling scared I think that's normal too but will fade with time. I think those of us who have failed so many times to lose the weight and keep it off become afraid of another failure. But it doesn't have to be that way--LC means an honest chance at success for us. And I'm looking forward to watching you reach your goals.

Soooo, welcome aboard the ship of dreams!

Welcome, Melloyello! We're very glad to have you with us!

You feel scared because you're entering new and unknown territory, like a strange country that you've never been to before, and where you don't know the language or customs. I'm quitting smoking this coming Friday, June 1st, and I'm scared, too. I completely and thoroughly understand how you feel.

You can overcome your addition to soft drinks, just as I can overcome my addiction to cigarettes. It just takes hard work and determination. We all know that caffeine is addictive, and there are a few research studies that seem to indicate aspartame can be addictive, too. I suggest you find some soft drinks that are sweetened with Splenda. Diet-Rite Pure Zero is one I like, and also Hansen's. Apparently, Pepsi One is popular with many people, but I've never seen it in the stores here. Other people use flavored bottled water, but you can flavor plain water with old-fashioned unsweetened Kool-Aid (the kind that comes in the little paper packets) and a bit of Splenda.

Best wishes to you!

welcome aboard Mellowyello like you I have the horrible cravings for sugar & carbs but what I am trying to do is not fight the craving because it is actually happening but to embrace the craving as a dragon that needs to be slayed or a monster that is trying to kill me because that is EXACTLY what it is. I find a little relief from the soda crave by adding sugar free syrups to a big bottle of Perrier water. good luck on your journey.

Everyone, thanks for all the support, encouragement and tips! It means a lot to know that people can relate! I don't feel so alone.

Kisal, I know you can overcome your addiction to cigarettes. I used to smoke, and I remember how hard it was to quit. I once got so desperate that I found a half-smoked cigarette of the GROUND and smoked it. How sad is that? (Not even MY half-smoked cigarette either!!!!) The first two weeks were difficult, but after that it got abundantly easier! (Just think of all the money you will save not having to buy cigarettes!)

310nomore a.k.a. dragon-craving-slayer, you are right. Cravings happen. I have to find a way to DEAL with the craving instead of trying to ignore them. It's a good idea to substitute a healthier habit in the place of a bad one.

Kisal,

Welcome... You've really come to a great place for support. Now you just need to get into the mindset of this as a way of life and you will create your success.

I've been where you are today. As a matter of fact I did the on again off again so many times in one year that I wouldn't tell my partner when I actually did start it this last time. Finally it came out and I've never looked back since.

The big thing for my success this time? Coming to the boards and talking. Learning to cook real whole foods and not settling for the boxed lowcarb lifestyle. I did it with the food. And I learned to cook with the food too. Flax has become a great way of getting fiber in my diet and making flax muffins, flax bread has helped tremendously... in addition to having revolution rolls for sandwiches (totally induction friendly).... but again the key was I had to keep foods cooked up and ready to grab whenever I needed them.

Prepare and you will create your success.

T-man

They are from the ATkins 72 book... Personally I make them the exact same way except instead of the cheeses I use 1.5 Tablespoons of Mayonaise. I also add a little freshly grated parmesian and cheddar on top......

Basic Roll

I use this recipe:

4 eggs, separated
1/8 tsp of cream of tartar
3 Tbs. of sour cream, ricotta cheese, softened cream cheese, OR cottage cheese (least favorite)
2 tsp. Splenda

Put whites and cream of tartar in a large bowl. With an electric mixer, beat until whites are stiff..(don't move in the bowl), but not dry.

In a medium bowl, mix yolks, your choice of dairy product, and Splenda. Mix
until well blended.

Then, take about 1/3 of the whites and gently mix it into the yolks, so you are fluffing them up a bit. Then fold this mixture into the whites.

Either using a muffin-top pan (which has been sprayed with Pam) or a cookie sheet, plop 6 mounds.

Bake at 300 for 25-30 minutes until well browned...Cool on rack and then store in baggies in the fridge.

They are better after being in the fridge overnight.......
I'm sure there are other methods, but this is a very basic, easy one.

Here are some pics of what they look like when I pull them out of the oven....

They are great for making sandwiches especially with left over meats like chicken breast.... I love them..

T-man,
That actually sounds great...and pretty easy too.
I will have to give that a try!
Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Not a problem... they are best if you use muffin top pans to be honest.. that's what I use...
