Default Dr. Mary Vernon answers some common critiques of Atkins

This is a link to Dr. Mary Vernon's blog. She was one of the writers of Dr. Atkins Diabetes Revolution, and is one of low-carb nutrition's staunchest supporters.

Dr. Vernon lives just down the road from me, and one of these days I'll have to run out there and give her a big hug--the hug I can't deliver to my hero, Dr. Atkins.

Greetings, Kiwi Karrier. Had a wonderful return trip to NZ last year, for a reunion of school mates. I was there as an exchange student in high school, and have big soft spot in my heart for the place. (Even though living there for eight months was the beginning of a HUGE weight management problem for me. How many pavlovas can one kid stuff in without consequences??)

Best wishes to all. I've got Dr. Vernon bookmarked.

Give her a hug for me, too. I too am sorry Dr. Atikins has passed! I am so thankful he stood for truth, not prestige and dollar signs.

You're quite welcome, Jules

G.A.B.E. is: God, Atkins, Bernstein, Eades. They're my team, I like to say, and I've benefitted greatly from them.

Make that a third hug, Barbara Dr. Vernon seems like a terrific person, and doctor.

Here's a link to a good diabetes website. Go about a third of the way down, and you'll see some links to listen to a podcast with Dr. Vernon, good stuff.

No matter how well adapted I am I *need* carbs if I am going to run in a race or something. I tried doing a 12k on low-carb once. My performance was dismal and I had no energy.
For daily gym activities low-carb is fine, but I have to eat high-carb just prior to a race. -- Jane | April 24, 2007
I guess I never work out that hard-- I never seem to run out of steam on LC now when I often did on all the bread, rice and pasta and I was much younger then.
