When all else fails....

Blame FAT

A high-fat breakfast can lead to an unhealthy day

A new study published in this month's edition of the Journal of Nutrition demonstrates that a single high-fat meal in an otherwise healthy lifestyle causes a person to have a stronger adverse physiological reaction to stress than when eating a balanced diet.
At least they linked to the source...

A High-Fat Meal Increases Cardiovascular Reactivity to Psychological Stress in Healthy Young Adults

The consumption of a single high-fat meal has been associated with a transient impairment of vascular function.

Wasn't that 'finding' from the most excellent carrot cake/milkshake study?

Quote:
Thirty healthy participants ate a high-fat (42 g) and a low-fat (1 g) meal on 2 separate occasions, and their cardiovascular response to 2 standard laboratory stressors was measured.

Anyone have a subscription? I'd love to know what their meals consisted of. (Carrot cake/milkshake vs low-fat carrot cake/milkshake?)

Thanks Regina. Still a high carb + high fat meal. Doesn't apply to low carb + high fat.

The numbers don't even add up in the paper, nor to they parallel the nutrition information on McDonald's website....if they really ate what the researchers said they did, they ate more calories, more fat and more carbs than reported and much more than compared with the low-fat group.

As George said, it's junk science....forget those in the study did not have EXAGGERATED cardiovascular reactivity - sure they did react to the stress, as expected, both groups did - but neither fell over the line for "exaggerated" reaction! But don't look to the media to make that distinction - and don't expect the researchers in the full limelight of the media right now to actually say "ummm, well, it's not like anyone reacted dangerously high"....not gonna happen.

Hash browns? McMuffins? Sounds like the high fat meal was also high in partially hydrogenated oil.

LOL...even better!!!

Funny that they didn't title it "One McDonald's Meal Increases..." Gee, wonder why? What would Dean Ornish say? If it has been "Atkins" food, you betcha that would have been in the title.
