Thanks to Jen for initially supplying this link:

"In June, the New England Journal of Medicine, one of the most respected medical journals, made a startling announcement. The editors declared that they were dropping their policy stipulating that authors of review articles of medical studies could not have financial ties to drug companies whose medicines were being analyzed...."

The reason? The journal could no longer find enough independent experts. Drug company gifts and "consulting fees" are so pervasive that in any given field, you cannot find an expert who has not been paid off in some way by the industry.

How sad that impartiality is becoming an endangered species.

If you see some of the articles - you can deduce that.

A favorite tactic I see is to prove that every natural cure you and I can do without them - does not work, is a waste of money, and could be dangerous (fear, uncertainty, and doubt - FUD).

Their only study is - take all the studies that show benefit and find a reason to throw each study out. Then there are only studies that show no benefit. Do a study of studies that show no benefit and there is only one conclusion.

Then it gets published in a prestigous journal and big pharma pays news networks to push the results in front of everyone.

And as long as they have their tool, the FDA, on the chain, nobody will be able to challenge them.

Pharmaceutical drugs are not centered on health. It's all about money. It's a business, and profits are the driving force.

Saying No to Big Pharma

In 2004, pharmaceutical companies spent $37 billion on research and development, according to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the industry's trade association. Drug companies spent another $27.7 billion on promotion, including $15.9 billion worth of free drug samples and $7.3 billion on sales-rep contacts (free lunches and pens), $4 billion on direct-to-consumer advertising and $500 million on journal advertising, according to IMS Health, a pharmaceutical information and consulting company.
