do you know if you can use the non-virgin coconut oil (the kind that doesn't taste quite as "coconut-y")?

i made two batches.... one with non-virgin because i hate coconut, and one with virgin because my daughter loves coconut.

we both preferred it with the non-virgin.

oh, and be sure and keep it in the freezer. it seems to be better frozen than just refridgerated.

Wonder if butter could be substituted for some or all of the coconut oil? Not that I mind the coconut oil, but butter might give a different flavor. Any thoughts?

Default coconut oil?

Can you use unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil?

I've got a bottle of non-virgin on the way.... I'll let you know how it comes out!

obsessive, go to spectrum organics (i *think* it's http://www.spectrumorganics.com)... they have information on the different types and you can also buy it there. And, they have other oils, too.

I made it with butter last weekend and it was DELICIOUS!! It was super rich and creamy and tasted more like fudge....that's why I won't be making very often!

if it doesn't say virgin above the "refined cold pressed" than it's not virgin

i can't remember what mine says on the label. all i know is the virgin and extra-virgin coconut oils ALWAYS have it in big bold letters on the label of the ones i've seen at the health food store. (here in the west, grocery stores don't carry the stuff.... they still think it's harmful i guess.)

Default o.k. now I got it

I was picturing coconut oil to be running like olive oil.
I did what another poster did, got some at Walmart, real cheap!
Doesn't say anything but coconut oil. Now I at least know what it is. I never knew. Made some bark a little while ago and scorched it. I'll try again.

even our walmart doesn't carry it here. although i did manage to get the local walmart neighborhood market to start carrying the hood calorie countdown milk for me! (used to be called carb countdown)

and nope, it's not liquid. it's very much a solid unless you keep it on the top of the stove like i do

Default coconut oil

I meant runny(liquidy) like olive oil. (not running)
