Default Grains

Please help.

Today was my first grain day. I started Phase 2 with a fruit rather than a grain for this very reason. I just knew I'd crave.

My whole reason for this diet is to find a lifetime way of eating and to stop starving-bingeing-starving. I don't want to be starving. I hate this.

I had 3/4 cup Kashi GoLean with 1% milk. That was this morning. I had a fried egg immediately beforehand for protein.

I'm dying right now from cravings.

Can't I just skip the grains? Are they THAT important? I just...hate this.

I've seen some people recommend holding off on grains altogether until maintenance, and getting all your Phase II carbs from fruit and starchy veggies. That's what I'm trying this time around, and it seems to be working, both from a cravings standpoint and a continued loss standpoint.

Last time on South Beach, which was several years ago, I introduced grains right away in Phase II and now I think that caused a series of stalls that really slowed down my loss.

I don't see why it would be important to eat grains as long as you're getting healthy carbs from other sources.

Sorry about the frustrations! Several weeks ago, I had to deal with cravings, too, as a result of eating a couple of slices of thin crust pizza at a friend's house (she knew I was doing "low carb" and was trying to accomodate me; I didn't tell her that I shouldn't really be eating refined flour at all...lol.) It took a few days, but they eventually went away. Hang in there!

Sundancerk is right...you do not need to eat grains now....you can start to eat more starchy veggies and 2 pieces of fruit per day.

What grains are in the Kashi cereal? I found that wheat really triggered my appetite...especially when I had it in the morning. You can also try a serving of brown rice with your dinner as brown rice does not cause me any problems.....

Here are a few foods that I now eat that are made with whole grain:
Kashi TLC granola bars as a snack
Wasa crispbreads
brown rice
wild rice

here are my starchy veggies:
carrots
butternut squash
sweet potato

I see that the "other" board is big on pushing whole grains.....you do not need to feel pressured to eat them.... OK?

Hope this helps!!

THis is from the fod list under starches. They list corn as a starch and it is but it is a grain and not a veggie!!

Potato, sweet, small (considered a starchy vegetable; count as a starch/grain serving)
Pumpkin - 3/4 cup (considered a starchy vegetable; count as a starch/grain serving)
Rice - 1/2 cup cooked:

Oh, this is fabulous! Girls, thank you.

The GoLean's gonna have to sit on top of the fridge for a while. Like maybe a year.

Heres the ingredients in the Go Lean cereal:

Quote:
Kashi® Seven Whole Grain and Sesame™ Blend (Whole: Hard Red Winter Wheat, Long Grain Brown Rice, Oats, Triticale, Barley, Rye, Buckwheat, Sesame Seeds), Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals, Soy Protein Concentrate, Brown Rice Syrup, Chicory Root Fiber, Almonds, Whole Oats, Whole Flaxseed, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Honey, Salt, Natural Flavor, Mixed Tocopherols (Natural Vitamin E) for Freshness.

Wheat is the first ingredient....I think that you may be wheat sensitive.

Thank you, Judy. I agree. I've wondered for a while if I had an issue with wheat. It seriously sets me off horribly. It turns me into an eating monster with absolutely NO enjoyment, zero, of what I'm stuffing in. It's actually a little scary, even though that may sound dramatic. It involves, I don't know, a panic. Like I haven't seen food in six weeks and am about to drop dead.

I'm going to do two fruits for this week and then next week I'm going to try some corn. Corn does not seem to have had this effect on me in the past.

I'm up a pound this morning, but it could be worse. I'm really trying to find my "for life" WOE, a healthy one. I think SBD without wheat might be it.

Don't forget about turnips and parsnips!! They are yummy all cooked soft and smashed. They are root veggies and are starchy!!
