Default Vegetables

Okay...I am today's Official Thread Starter.

Looking over some Phase II menus, it seems like the total amount of vegetables goes down. Is that okay? On another board everyone is saying you need four cups of veggies a day. Or are people eating less as they have spent a longer period of time on SB?

I had been trying to get a veggie with each meal but I do see just yogurt as a meal, or a protein shake, or an omelette with just a few veggies thrown in.

Any experiences with this?

I happen to agree with those 4 cups a day...but I know that its a hard thing to do each day.

IMO, I think that you should do the best you can and eat veggies as often as you can....but if and when you are eating foods that don't necessarily go with veggies ie: protein shake, then how about putting some extra fiber(flax meal or psylium) in the shake.

You're probably looking at my menus and seeing that I eat more salad than veggies, but that's only because I have got a bit bored and veggied out with vegetables.

I eat a lot of salad now because I am in salad mode, however, when I get bored of salad I will revert to the veggies again.
I agree, you should be getting your 4 cups a day

I'm confused about the distinction between "salad" and vegetables. I mean, aren't the main ingredients of a salad vegetables?

To get in my veggies - I eat them at breakfast (usually w/ eggs or cheese); I eat them at lunch in the form of a salad; I eat them at supper w/ my "dishes" instead of rice.

My usual cooked veggies are gai-lan & choi-sum (two types of Chinese veggies) and broccoli, but I also have cauliflower, spinach, cooked celery, cooked Napa cabbage, baby bok choi, snow peas, and most recently, beet greens (from my DH's container garden).

I have also had a few vegetable curries. Last Tuesday I ate out and had an okra curry for lunch (green vegetables, no rice), and this Saturday I had mushroom and pea currry (green vegetables, n rice).

I never have protein shakes and rarely eat yoghurt.

I wasn't making a distinction between salad and vegetables. hk-lowcarb, I don't think I was referring to your menus as I don't recall seeing your name. If you all look through the thread with daily menus you'll see what I was describing. I wasn't accusing anybody of anything. I was trying to find out how Phase II works in practice.

Phase two works any way you want it to. Like I said, you might tire of cooked veggies, so eat salad, there really are no rules or regulations, just do what fits best with you

I aim to have fruit or veg or salad with all 3 snacks and all 3 meals.
I eat way over the recommended 5-a-day, or 4 cups.

Glendora,

I was referring to Foxgluvs post directly above mine where she was discussing vegetables and salads as if they were different things (or so I thought).

"I eat a lot of salad now because I am in salad mode, however, when I get bored of salad I will revert to the veggies again." - foxgluvs

Next time, I'll use quotes to make sure there is no misaprehension.

I thought the thread was a general one about "how are you consuming vegetables in Phase II"
