Question Pork Belly

I see a lot of people in the forums talking about pork belly but I'm having trouble finding it....been to a few stores but nobody seems to know what I am talking about. Can you tell me if maybe they call it something else???
Thanks,
Trisha

When it's salted and cured, it's called BACON!

I had trouble finding it too. No grocery stores carry it around here. I found a meat market nearby and they had it...for $4.59 a pound! I bought some but future purchases of something like that are out of the question for me. It's just too expensive for what I got, although it was so very tasty. I thought fatty pork was supposed to be CHEAP?!?!

Anyway, I get fatty pork roasts (like shoulder roast) on sale for 0.99 a pound, and I wrap them well and store them in the freezer. They're almost as high in fat, and a LOT cheaper. It's very tender and tasty.

I did find something in one store but they called it "Salt Pork" and I didn't know if it was the same thing. Do you know?
May have to go with the pork roast thing, but I was really trying to find the pork belly!
One guy looked at me like I was nuts...lol

Default Pork Belly

What we call belly pork in the UK is the equivalent of spare rib and side in America. Hope this helps.

Nope, salt pork is not the same. Pork belly is fresh meat, just like pork chops or pork roast. Salt pork is cured with salt. It's good in small amounts for seasoning green beans and such, but I wouldn't want to just eat it!

Speaking of ribs, my wife and I went to Tony Romas the other day and found they no longer carry low carb BBQ sauce for their ribs! That made me sad! At least their steaks were pretty good and I love those green beans. We tried making our own ribs once but it was a bit of a pain to prep them first. Then you have to cook them all day (if you want them to be good that is.) Maybe instead of texas style (lots of sauce) I could get them KC style (just rubbed in spices) from somewhere. Mmmm gotta love ribs though!

Cook them all day? Work to prep them? Wow, my ribs aren't like that.

I season them with salt, pepper, garlic & onion powder, seal them in foil and bake for 2 -2.5 hours at 325 or 350. Remove to the hot grill for a few minutes to crisp the outside. They are so good!
