Default One week down

Well, today closes out one week on PhI and I am feeling fine. Very very happy with the food. Not feeling like I'm "dieting". That's my major purpose--well, let's not lie, my first purpose is to no longer be enormous for my height. But my other major purpose is to figure out how I'm going to eat for the rest of my life, since the first 39.75 years don't seem to have been very successful that way.

I am loving South Beach.

Next Monday (not this coming one--the, I think, 12th--I don't have a calendar in front of me) I will begin PhII. I will add one fruit a day for that week. I'm not in a hurry to add grains. I don't miss them very much.

Most food plans have made me feel like I had to eliminate at least one food group, but I'm not feeling like I'm missing anything on SB. I mean I will even eventually eat grains--as wholesome as possible, but grains. So I'm eating dairy, vegetables, meat, fish, chicken, beans, cheeses, eventually fruit, and sweet (Splenda) stuff...I don't see how there could be anything else.

Anyway...just wanted to post my progress for anyone interested, or anyone reading this wondering if they should try SB.

Congrats, Glendora, on a great first week! You sound like you're weathering it a lot better than I did. I don't mind telling you that I was a grouchy, sugar-starved, headache-y pile of complaints for the first seven days or so. But it did its job--the cravings went away and I started to feel better soon after!

I followed the advice of a lot of people on this board and made berries my first carb add-in when I started phase two. In my past attempt on South Beach, I added back whole grains right away, and experienced a stall. I think this time I'll wait until I'm a bit closer to my goal weight before I do that.

I'm with you--I love all the variety of things I can eat on this plan! I never get bored, and I think I'm actually enjoying eating now more than I ever have, since it makes my body feel good and I'm not dealing with guilt over poor food choices.

Congrats again!

Congratulations Glendora! Today is Day 1, Phase 1 for me and I am excited that I may have finally decided the the right plan. How much did you lose in the first week?

Sounds like you've had a great first week ... I hope that the scales reflect how hard you've worked too

Thanks, everybody!

Katrina, don't get me wrong--I had several days of South Beach Flu too, and one of them I was actually afraid to drive during. I have never been so dizzy. I was freaking out a little. But even during those times I wasn't emotionally jonesing for starches--just physically, I guess. I mean while it was happening I wasn't thinking, "If only I could have a Big Mac with fries." So I was really happy about that.

DebraAnnG, as of the scale this morning, I've lost something like 6 lbs., give or take a few ounces (not that I'm counting or anything ). That was all just within a few days--now for the past two or three days I've been at the same weight almost exactly. This is probably for two reasons: 1. It was bound to slow down at some point--nobody can literally lose a pound or two a day without liposuction--it has to be water and 2. TOM is due some time this week and I'm retaining water.

aprils--Thanks.
