Default Induction - GRRRR

The first time I did induction I lost a good amount of weight in a month. The second time I lost very, very small amounts but it was gradual.

I have been doing induction since January. And 2 months later I have lost NO WEIGHT. I am at the end of my rope. I don't know what else to do and I feel like giving up.

I did decide to go see a doc and have some bloodwork done - I will be going next week.

In the meantime should I increase carbs and forego induction? I added Vit D and started taking 4000IU a day. Honestly, it makes me sick to my stomach when I take it but I saw the study recommended 7000IU so I know I am not overdosing.

Thanks for any support!!

That is a LOT of Vitamin D you are taking! I live in the Pacific NW where we don't get a lot of sunshine - my preferred source of Vitamin D, but at the most I will only take 1000-2000 IU of it in supplemental form. Here is a little blurb about ODing on vitamin D from Healthlink:

"What is the health risk of too much vitamin D?
There is a high health risk associated with consuming too much vitamin D. Vitamin D toxicity can cause nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, constipation, weakness, and weight loss. It can also raise blood levels of calcium, causing mental status changes such as confusion. High blood levels of calcium also can cause heart rhythm abnormalities. Calcinosis, the deposition of calcium and phosphate in soft tissues like the kidney can be caused by vitamin D toxicity.
Consuming too much vitamin D through diet alone is not likely unless you routinely consume large amounts of cod liver oil. It is much more likely to occur from high intakes of vitamin D in supplements. The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine considers an intake of 1,000 IU for infants up to 12 months of age and 2,000 IU for children, adults, pregnant, and lactating women to be the tolerable upper intake level. Daily intake above this level increases the risk of adverse health effects and is not advised."

IMHO, if something is making me feel sick, I will try to steer clear of it...

Good luck with your weight loss though!! Everyone is pulling for you!!!

What are you actually eating, and how much of it? Can you post up a typical day's diet?

Default The vitamin D debate

Didy,

You mentioned too much vitamin D...I never have been much on supplementing. But when I heard about the vitamin D experiment (see below) I thought that might be my issue too. That is why I tried it. This is my second day at 4000IU. Before I was taking 1200 IU.

I have a daily journal I keep my meals posted in. However, here is a typical day

Breakfast - 2-3 pieces bacon, 1 hard boiled egg - pretty typical. sometimes coffee w splenda - 1cup and 1/2 packet

Lunch- variations 1.hotwings (unbreaded) 2. salad w romaine lettuce, chicken chunks, shredded cheddar, bacon bits & cesar or pasta house italian dressing 3. leftovers like meatloaf (no ketchup) w broccoli or cauliflower or steak and grilled veggies(broccoli/cauliflower)

Dinner - pretty much same as lunch except I only have salad one time a day. If I eat a salad for lunch then I am light on the veggie at dinner.

I have been eating seafood 1 time a week the last couple weeks....this last week was talapi, the week before was shrimp.

Today's meals:

Breakfast - 2 pieces pork sausage (no maple additives, etc just plain jane) w a small piece of cheddar cheese melted on top - 1 hard boiled egg but I have not eaten it...sick of eggs. 1 cup coffee w 1/2 packet splenda

Lunch - hot wings (8-10 small ones), cauliflower w ranch dressing

Dinner - rotisserie chicken, small salad w romaine lettuce, bacon bits, shredded parmesan, cesar dressing

The one thing that strikes me is that the meats you are eating seem to be very processed (hot wings, sausage, meatloaf, bacon etc). Sometimes those meats can have a lot of filler carbs in them that are not easy to spot.

Would it be worth ditching them for a week, and just eating fresh meat/fish/chicken that you cook yourself? If you buy say, a kilo of drumsticks and roast them all in one go, it's not that much trouble.

Everything else looks fine.

That sounds doable, but what do I do for breakfast?? The only meats I know for breakfast are bacon, sausage or ham...all would be processed meats.

I'd definitely ditch the meatloaf.... unless it's made to be specifically low carb, meatloaf is made with bread or cracker crumbs as filler. Sausage almost always is made with sugar. For breakfast, I'd stick with good old ham (NOT honey ham). Also... be VERY careful of salad dressings and read the labels. Many are made with high fructose corn syrup and other sugars.

Thanks for the info on the Vitamin D thread. I guess my "motto" would kind of be, "Anything that's strong enough to help you, is strong enough to hurt you" so I'm probably a bit too cautious about over doing something supplement-wise.

As far as the meat thing for breakfast; you just get to start thinking outside of the breakfast box! You can have steak, salmon, hamburger, shrimp, scallops, chicken, etc.... yum! Think of the interesting omelets you can create!!

Good luck with your doctor's appt. too! I'm sure everything will be GREAT!!

I make my own meatloaf...all I put in it is ground meat, salt, pepper, eggs and onions. Is there hidden carbs somewhere in ground meat?

I do plain ham, I shop whole foods so I get just plain ham, no additives, etc.

The Cesar dressing I use also comes from whole foods with no syrups, etc.

FYI - with an autistic child I am an avid label reader I spend over an hour shopping every week because I read labels for "hidden" ingredients. Believe me, I know how misleading those labels are.

The ham said it has some carbs (I think it is 1 carb per serving) though not sure where it is from (processing???). I will try ham instead of bacon. Thanks for that tip. Funny though, bacon notes no carbs and ham notes 1. Talk about misleading huh?

Holy Macaroni!!! 2 GALLONS????? I drank 80 oz one day and almost threw up. I had a headache and felt so bloated and my pants didnt fit anymore. And I gained 1/2 pound!!

I have yet to figure out how water helps/hurts me with this diet. I can go days with minimal amounts of water and sometimes gain/lose. I do know when I drink A LOT of water I gain. A couple weeks ago I drank at least 60 oz of water for 3 days in a row - and gained 2 lbs. So I stopped drinking water as much and lost the 2 lbs in 2 days.

I wish I knew what MY BODY feels like is optimal water intake

I know 2 gallons seems like a lot but for me it's not. I have always been an avid water drinker so my body has grown accustomed to being hydrated. And honestly i'm not forcing the water down I'm drinking it becasue I"m thirsty. (and no I don't eat a lot of salty/processed meats to cause extra thirst)

Isn't the "rule of thumb" you should drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces?? For instance I weigh 192lbs so I should drink 96 ounces a day.

If you don't fancy more eggs (and I like a nice omlette with plenty of chili in it) then there's always fish. For the last few days, I've been eating steak for breakfast, and I've got to say, it's often six or seven hours before I'm hungry again.
