Default I went to Applebees for lunch...did I make a good choice

I'm still on induction, so this was difficult, but this is what I chose. Hope I didnt screw up to bad..I dont know about the vinagrette...

GRILLED SHRIMP 'N SPINACH SALAD
Fresh spinach tossed with tomatoes, red peppers, onions, almonds and topped with grilled shrimp. Served with bacon vinaigrette. Prices for half / full size.

It was awesome, but it was SMALL because it was a lunch deal where you could pick two things off this menu and it was $5.99. So, I picked that with the soup. I didnt eat the soup, I gave that to my friend. So, I'm thinking it was MAYBE the 1/2 salad at best...

Applebees is tough, because there are hidden carbs in everything. As far as your choice there, it was probably pretty good.

Almonds arent allowed on induction, but it was a safer choice.
When I go there, I order the hot wings or the bruchetta burger, no bun and side ceasar salad, no croutons.

You can never really tell how many carbs are in a meal unless you prepare it for yourself, i'd say then in that case that you did a pretty good job with your choices and well done, i know its hard when you are faced with a yummy menu and i know i really like Applebees whenever i'm in the US on holiday.

when i go to a joint like that i see if there is a steak on the menu, they usually dont put sugar on steak. You know you're safe with that. I never trust any sauces or dressings when out. It never hurts to ask either, most places cater to diabetics and such, i always tell them i cant have sugar or i'll keel over that tends to get their attention,

I was going to order the steak, but it was like $12.99..no steak on the lunch deal menu...as for the almonds..I highly doubt there was even one whole one on my salad. Last night we went out for VD and I got prime rib, gave away the soup and the potatoe and just had the salad and maybe 1/4 of the prime rib. I will have the rest for dinner tonight!

Even if it had hidden carbs in it, I doubt the count would be so high as to throw you into weight gain if it was only half a salad.

Far less carbs than if you'd ordered a hot fudge sundae or a piece of pie!

I think you probably did very well. Even if there was sugar in the dressing (did it taste sweet?) I'm sure it wasn't enough to do any damage on the smaller salad. Good job!

I have had that salad before thinking bacon dressing would be safe choice, ah no....sweet as hell, and you know it sure wasn't splenda! If I were to do it over, a better choice might be the same dressing with blue cheese???? Just a suggestion, for myself as well.

This was on Calorieking.com. These were the totals for one salad. Well, the salad is $8.99 for a whole one and that isnt what I got. So, I must have done ok.. I also looked at all different viniagrette dressings (full fat) and they were like 3 grams per serving.

So, 15 grams for a whole salad..7.5 for 1/2...I'll go with 10 and compromise. lol Now, just strictly meat for dinner.

You don't have to do just meat tonight!

Those kinds of things, IMO, aren't helpful in making the diet a WOL. It perpetuates the diet mentality and the deprivation mentality. 10g is not much and depending on what you had for breakfast, and your daily allowance, you could at the very least have a green salad (if you don't mind 2 salads in one day, I love them so I don't mind) or a serving a lower carb induction veggie. Even if you've met your carb count for the day, you could have a small green salad and still be fine.

This is just my opinion of course.
