Unhappy New Today!

HI Everyone! This is my first day on the lowcarber forum. I'll tell you alittle about myself. I became a new mommy (again) on November 30, 2006. Before I became pregnant I weighed 155lbs. My peak weight at 9 months pregnant was 206lbs. After having my son, I weighed in at 183lb and today weigh 170.8 lbs. I'm having a little difficulty with Atkins right now. I was on it before I became pregnant and lost 40lbs to get down to my 155. But since starting induction on January 1, 2007, I've only lost about 5lbs. I"m not sure what I"m doing wrong this time around...any suggestions?

Sometimes it takes a while for your metabo to kick in. Don't give up. I've started and stopped and started and stopped so much that I've learned sometimes it takes extra to get it going. Make sure you are not eating more than 20 carbs a day and drinking LOTS of water. That will kick start it. Also, add more protein and limit your veggies for a while to see if that kicks in. Good luck!!

Yes, I think the veggies are what's hurting me. I"m also not as active being home with a new born, but I did start my Tae-Bo regime today!

Thanks.

Lack of rest can be a big factor in weightloss, and with a newborn you're almost certain to have less sleep than you need, at least on occasion. Your body may still be adjusting to post pregnancy hormone levels too.
Give it time, your doing great. Come here often for support and you will reach your goal.

Stick with it! I have heard (and experienced!) that it is harder to get the weight loss started on your susequent Atkin's attempts. I lost 35 pounds quickly and easily the first time. Then I fell off the wagon, but didn't regain for several years. Now I'm back on, and the weight isn't coming off nearly as quickly or easily as begore. But slow and steady wins the race. It'll come, just give it time and don't give up!

Still no loss......totally confused. I think I'll try just meat and eggs for a few days, see if that helps.

Normajean,
How about starting a journal where you can list your daily menus, exercise, etc.? Sometimes its easier to see where things got off a bit in review, also we could review them and see if we notice anything that has helped or hurt us. Just a thought. Either way hang in there, its only been a week, you may be surprised what happens in a few more days.

Actually I've been on Atkins for 3 weeks now...induction and have only lost 5 lb. In the morning I typically eat bacon and eggs. Tuna and cheese for lunch, maybe a small salad. For supper I"ll eat steak or chicken and mixed veggies.

Am I eating the wrong veggies? CAn I have carrots? Or maybe it's too much cheese....that's what I snack on.

Any tips?

normajean,

Carrots are a no-no. Unfortunately, for many, cheese is a staller; I was losing well, but when I hit a stall, I cut out cheese and the weight began coming off again. Do you have a DANDR book? There are a ton of veggies listed there that you can eat. Don't skimp on fat, it is essential; don't skimp of food. I eat six smaller meals a day. My ratios are usually 5% carbs, 25% protein and 70% fat.

I snack on chicken breast (which I cook several at a time) left over meats from the previous night, hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs, celery and cream cheese, tuna salad wrapped in a lettuce leaf, and sometimes a bit of cheese. Now that I've discovered rev rolls, if I'm hungry, one of those work really well. Check out the recipe site here; I make the casseroles all the time and re-heat them for a quick breakfast. Variety is also key, if your food is boring, mix it up. Boredom leads to failure. And don't forget to drink that water!

Stay off the scale for a couple weeks, and stick (strictly) to the correct foods. No straying, no cheating.

Give it time!

Thank you so much, 'emily30'....those food suggestions are great. Oh and 'tmatrocks'....I never cheat (well, not knowingly anyway)...haha. I can't avoid the scale, I'm addicted to it. I did notice this morning I'm down a pound. So that makes me happy!

I won't give up...I"m too stubborn to do that. I must llok up those rev rolls everyone is talking about.

Thanks again....

Hi Normajean,

This is the recipe I use, which makes 12, you can easily do a half batch.

6 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons of Splenda
1/2 teaspoon of tartar
6 T cream cheese
dash of salt (optional) - I omitted it

Preheat oven to 300. Separate the eggs. In one bowl, put Splenda, salt and cream cheese and yolks. Whisk this mixture together. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff. Using a spatula, gradually fold the yolk mixture into the white mixture, being careful not to break down the whites. Spray a cookie sheet with Pam and spoon the mixture onto the sheet, making 12, 2-3 inch mounds. Bake about 60 mins. Cool for few minutes, then remove to rack and cool. Put in a ziplock bag in the fridge.

Best served the next day.

Congrats on the new little one!! Are you nursing? If so, you may want to rethink doing Induction for now. You have a hungry little one who needs all kinds of nutrients right now and your body may be sensing that....just a thought.

Most of us don't count calories around here but did you know that breast feeding can use up 1500 calories a day? Be sure to get lots and lots of water. Wishing you the best.
