If you're doing Atkins Induction, 4 oz. a day is the limit:

Cheese
You can consume three to four ounces daily of the following full-fat, firm, soft and semisoft aged cheeses*, including:
cheddar
cow, sheep and goat cheese
cream cheese
Gouda
mozzarella
Roquefort and other blue cheeses
Swiss

*All cheeses have some carbohydrate content. The quantity you eat should be governed by that knowledge. The rule of thumb is to count 1 ounce of cheese as equivalent to 1 gram of carbohydrate. Note that cottage cheese, farmer’s cheese and other fresh cheeses are not permitted during Induction. No "diet" cheese, cheese spreads or whey cheeses are permitted. Individuals with known yeast symptoms, dairy allergy or cheese intolerance must avoid cheese. Imitation cheese products are not allowed, except for soy or rice cheese—but check the carbohydrate content.

I've personally found I have to limit cheese to about 1 or 2 oz's. But, everyone is different so you may be able to eat the 4 oz a day and still lose. I couldn't.

Hope this helps.

All the best to you!!

Kim

I think one reason Dr Atkins told us to limit the cheese is because it is such an easy food to eat too much of!

So count one ounce as one carb as he said and you will not sabotage your weightloss efforts.

Speaking personally I could easily eat half a pound of brie in one evening watching TV which is probably about 750 calories!! (But I dont because of counting each ounce as one carb instead of its actual carb content)

Me, too! Brie is my weakness!

But back to the original point - you do need to monitor how much cheese you are consuming in a day. I've known several people who have stalled and when they cut out their cheese they start losing again. Just watch your portions and enjoy!

Cheese is definitely one of my weaknesses! I love all kinds, and enjoy trying a new type every week. I used to happily nibble away an entire half-pound or more of cheese every day while I read a book (I don't often watch TV.) Alas, now that I'm relatively close to goal, I feel that large amounts of cheese might interfere with my weight loss, so I limit how often I indulge in the many wonderful taste sensations of various cheeses.

cheese may say 0 carbs, but they're taking advantage of the fraction rule with nutritional info... that being anything less than .5g can be labeled as 0. some people find that too much cheese stalls because of the casein, some find it doesn't bother them at all.

you might want to check out the actual count on one of the nutritional sites... that will give you the actual fractions if you're interested.
