Default How can I avoid being a statistic to genes gone awry?

Heart disease,Heart related problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, depression, schitzophrania and obesity! All of these run very heavily on my mothers side of the family,"i sarcastically joked oh great if you do not go insane you can expect a heart attack by age 50.)but its no Joking matter at all.My grandfather, and uncle died due to heart related problems,my grandmother a blood clot,my uncle had heart failure, now my other aunt found out she has congestive heart failure, and my other uncle has been put into the hospital due to a heart related problem and clogged arteries. On my Dads side my father's father died of a heart attack.Allot of my cousins have obesity problems, one died because of sleep apnea.2 aunts have been diagnosed with schitzophrania,my grandfather (fathers mother had it) almost all of my mothers sisters are manic depressives and now my cousin has schitzophranic tendencies! My mother has high cholosterol, father has high choloesterol, mother on blood pressure meds and anti-depressents and my sister.I have a problem with mental issues/mood swings and depression my self.I am obese, have high cholosterol and etc.I am so scared after seeing all of this you can almost see my fate staring back at me. What is interesting to note is that before the third generation in my family no one had all of these problems my great grandmother lived into her late 90s driving around a trackter on the farm, she never lost her mind or had heart problems at all,and my great great grandmother lived in her mid 100's! So what is going on here?there has to be something else other then genetics killing everyone what is it?is it lifestyle?it has to be there is something that is making each generation sicker then the next.I am the youngest and sickest member of my family! what gives???How can i stop this cycle?

A lifestyle of indoor living. All the diseases/ailments that you've related are symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. And vitamin D deficiency of the mother affects fetal development in all areas including nerves, mental states, skeletal formation, and organ development and function. Thus each generation carries the deficiency forward to the next generation making each succeeding generation weaker.

Working out in the sun without sunscreen, vitamin D sufficiency. Also, good nutrition with plenty of vegetables and related nutrients plus meat without hormones and drugs.

IMHO, It's that simple.

Low carb diet, supplements, and moderate exercise will fix those.

Go to Amazon, Barnes and noble, or some other book store and buy some books on

Syndrome X
Metabolic Syndrome
Pre type 2 diabetes

I had most of those and more. And now there's nothing wrong with me ;-)

Ditto low carb but look into if you've got an issue with gluten. It is linked to a lot of those diseases. You might also want to consider getting a heartscan.

I like this guy's blog, except for his vegetarian lowfat stuff.

Agreed that the most likely cause is indoor living and on-going poor nutrition and vitamin deficiencies. You don't say where in the world you live; if it's at either of ends closer to the pole than I am, you can be at VERY high risk of D deficiency.

There's a much lower but non-zero risk of enviromental pollution being a contributing factor. Any chance your family lives in a factory town where long-term emissions have affected the air and drinking water? In that case, moving away might be a strategy.

As above, I don't think our genetic makeup HAS to determine our fate, outside some known conditions such as Huntington's chorea and other inherited diseases. But even if it does: fear isn't going to help. None of us anywhere on this board, or anywhere, is guaranteed to wake up tomorrow, and for a fact, some # of us won't. We probably will never know who didn't ever post again because he or she died the night before.

We only have today, and you have today, and what are you doing with your today? The longer-term outcome of your life is completely determined by what you chose to do with the series of todays remaining to you. You can fill them with fear and worry and doughnuts, and even if you do live to be 100, you will still have lived a life full of fear and worry and doughnuts. Or you can decide to live differently, and fill you days with art or life or helping other people in whatever way you are called to do. If that's how you build your lifetime set of todays, you'll be in a very different place when you eventually die.

Your call.

Good luck.
