Default Beer Butt Chicken Holder

For those of you who like to make "beer can chicken," here is a product that is safer to use. Instead of using a beer can to hold the chicken upright while roasting it, use this pan. (Beer cans have ink on the can they may be toxic when heated and rubs off on the chicken)

Another alternative is to use a large tube cake pan. The best kinds are the ones with removable bottoms. Be sure to grease the pan before roasting the chicken in it so it won't stick.

Ha-ha - never heard of that way of cooking chicken, but it looks fantastic. Gonna try it with a can first, but the cake pan idea looks possible too. Thanks for the idea!

They also have special wire racks that better stabalize the chicken, and can hold the beer or soda can under.

If you use a beer can, be sure to cover it with foil first to protect the chicken. Oh and if useing a beer can, use one of the tall cans. Or you can use a can from the large size for baked beans (depending on what size the chicken's "butt hole" is---lol) and take the paper label off the can before using.

I liked the idea of the pan because it catches the drippings if you are making this on an outside grill. If cooking it in your oven, just use a cookie or baking sheet with a rim to catch the drippings.

ps: There are instructions and recipes for Beer Butt or Beer Can Chicken all over the internet.

I made beer butt chicken for dinner today using half a can of beer with some chopped onion and garlic mixed in it. It was FANTASTIC and everyone loved the moist, flavoursome chicken and the crispy skin. I cooked it in the oven - had to use the bottom shelf only - it looked soooooo weird, too.
Thanks a million for the idea - it will be a regular for me now as it was the best-tasting chicken I've had in ages.

You are welcome.

As you can see, this method is the same one used for tube cakes and bundt cakes. Back in my high carb days, I was a cake decorator and used to make a lot of cakes. One cake I made was a teddy bear that sat upright. The pan came with a tube to insert in the middle so the cake would bake evenly all the way through. This is the same idea. I don't know about you, but I usually have a heck of a time getting chicken to be done on the inside without being burnt on the outside. But the beer can method works very well.

The tequila sounds good but ditch the bottle idea.

What a coincidence - so was I! I ran my own cake business for 14 years, finally specialising in wedding cakes only. I made some pretty odd cakes in my time, though ..... sheesh, the things people wanted

My husband was once stationed in Guam in the Pacific for two years and the children and I went with him. I had agreed to make a big graduation cake for a private school there. Then we got hit with a huge typhoon (hurricane) and were without electricity for 3 months. I had to make that entire big cake in 6 parts in a little portable camp oven on a Coleman grill. Now THAT was challenging!

ps: It came out really nice and everyone loved it.

You're right, that was a challenge!
I have to laugh thinking about the beer butt chicken that started this thread - I once had to make a cake in the shape of a roasted turkey, complete with 'roast potatoes', 'carrots' and 'gravy' for a guy who ran a turkey farm. When it was brought out at his party, people thought it was real!

I don't think I could face any of those - it was weird enough looking at the headless chicken sitting on the can through the glass door of the oven without adding a face to him before attacking him with an electric knife!
