Question Cutting my cake... but what should I do with the piece?

Guys,
Everyone who's been reading all my nonsensical posts will know by now that I will move cities at the end of the month. Our workplace has a tradition of getting a cake for farewell parties... which is cut by the person who's leaving (moi:lol

Everyone will then expect me to have a piece.

What shall I do?

Would it be easier to cut a small sliver and then not eat it or should I create a fuss by not eating it and risking everyone's snide comments?

One thing is certain - I aint eatin' that cake.

Is there anyway someone could find or make a low carb cheesecake for you? You could cut the cake and eat it!

Personally I would find out who's in charge of the cake and make a "special cake request" that is LC friendly. I mean, if it's a cake to celebrate you and sending you on your journey in life, who cares if others don't like it?

If you put a little piece on a plate and play with it with your fork, no one will notice if you ate it or not. After a few min, cover your plate with your napkin. No one really pays attention, unless you *don't* have a plate in your hand.

Tell them you want to freeze it and have it when, or after you get there-- or have it bronzed

What I do on my birthday at the office, is cut and hand out the cake, and then put mine to the side, and say I am saving it for after lunch or for a "treat" in the evening, or I simply hold it, and play with it a bit with my fork...nobody has caught on yet

georgia I have run into this same problem, almost my hole life I've been a diabetic, that being the greatest excuse one would think. My mother watches me like a hawk, she tells the whole crowd each time Deb's a diabetic and can't have this or that. And then its all different with my mother in law. I learned early on, she thought I was a snob when I would say no thank you. Then after explaining myself of being a juvenile diabetic, she always say a little won't hurt u, errr! So in front of her and that family crowd, I except a very small piece, feed my husband it and we laugh and the non-understanding mother in-law is happy. Thats alot of cortisol (stress) all over cake...what we all go thru trying to be healthy and loose weight.

Teresa and nocarb's ideas seem to be the only one I'll be able to manage.... the fact that you don't want your own cake is just unacceptable to people. It's amazing how affronted people get about what someone else puts or doesn't put into their stomachs!
So tomorrow, after all the speeches are done, I'll take a sliver and push ita round my plate and then get busy drinkin tea or chatting others up
Will let you all know how it turned out!

personally, i just would cut it and walk away and talk to people. why do you need to PRETEND for everyone else. Why walk around with a piece of cake on your plate only to tempt you? Who cares what other people think? it isnt their business what you eat or dont eat. If anyone questions you simply say "i dont eat sugar so i am not having any" and leave it at that! I for one, wont PRETEND for other people..i could give a crap whether they agree with what i am eating or not! lol

While I TOTALLY agree with you - I just don't have the energy to take this fight this time. It's my last day at work...I'm stressed about moving cities, quitting my job, being jobless for the next couple months, settling into a new environment, low carbing while doing all this, trying to start an exercise routine etc etc... I just dont have it in me to take on another discussion. especially since it's the last time I'll be seeing these guys - at least in this format.
So, instead of getting everyone all hetted up because Natasha didnt eat the damn cake.... i'll, this time, just this once.... push that cake on my plate.

I do what nocarb outlined. Put a sliver piece on your plate. Walk around thanking everyone. Cut into the piece, break it up, mash it down, so people cannot tell it is untouched, and that you are not eating. Bring the empty fork to your lips if you dare. Then when you get a chance, just ditch it as you mingle.

Good luck !
