Default arthritic pain

I've noticed since I've been paleo/neander (no dairy/no grains/no frankenfoods/no eggs) that I no longer have even a bit of arthritic pain. I'm thinking its because I'm not eating "inflammatory" foods.

How about you???? Anyone still exp arthritic pain or is it all gone since eating this way? Spose you young whippersnappers won't have an opinion....how about the over 50s...Duparc is that just you and me? t

Mine is totally gone since I've given up processed foods, grains, dairy, citrus and nightshades.

I do miss yogurt from time to time however.

Lobstergal have you given up citrus because of paleo or because of your own personal food intolerances? Same for nightshades? I do have tomato sometimes...what else is considered in the nightshade family besides tomato (and I'm thinking eggplant????) T

When I got pregnant in Aug, I gained 7-10lbs really quickly and my knees started hurting again. I got really stressed about the weight gain and worried that my knees were going to give out before I delivered. I got my eating under control and slowed the weight gain, but my knees still hurt.

In December, I went back to a more strict Paleo diet, cut out dairy completely, to help my allergies. Wouldn't you know it, within 2 weeks I had noticed my knees had quit hurting. Go figure. I had been in denial about the dairy, justifying it by saying 'I need the calcium', when I really just wanted to eat the cheese.

I've given up citrus because I've heard it caused inflammation. Now I wonder if that is entirely true and have been searching the internet for information.
No luck yet.

Some nightshades are eggplant, white potatoes, tomatoes, tobacco and all peppers. Those are the most common
This also includes cayenne pepper and paprika but does not include black pepper.

I must admit I do miss tomatoes and peppers but to live pain free is better
then eating them.

Don't be so sure, Flower. I've had arthritic pain since my early 30's. Pretty sure its because of an autoimmune thing. But right now I'm having a very, very quiet period.

Too many carbs can cause inflammation... from too much insulin. Short-lived hormones inside cells called eicosanoids act as either pro- or anti-inflammatory compounds depending on their type. Eicosanoids become imbalanced (skewed toward the pro-inflammatory) when insulin levels are high. I have noticed that if I eat too many carbs I get some flair ups in my finger joints. And when going real low carb, I have no pain anywhere. Other things, like nightshades (and even dairy and grains) can cause a lot of painful joints. LC paleo eating will always fix any arthritic condition.

I was really glad to learn that pastured or grass-fed beef has much less arachidonic acid so it can be enjoyed by people with arthritis. Plus the natural CLA is good too. I also have much less arthritis pain now that I've given up sugar, starch and grains. But I also take glucosamine/chondroiten/AvoSoy and do excercise.

Last year, my aunt was suffering very badly from arthritis. I gave her a copy of Neanderthin, and within a week or so of following the woe, she was more or less symptom free

She was originally a follower of the Hay Diet and veered towards vegetarianism. However, she's now a total convert to LC paleo nutrition. Her copy of Neanderthin is also very well-thumbed as she's lent it out to numerous friends who are intrigued at how she has managed to 'cure' herself

I just wanted to say that I found out I have a type of arthritis (Ankylosing Spondylitis, AS) that might be caused by the Klebsiella pnuemonia bacteria that escapes from the intestines and gets into one's joints. The diet that is recommended for this is a no-starch diet so that one doesn't feed the Kp in your bacteria, that hasn't escaped.

I suspect my gluten intolerance caused my intestines to become permeable and let the Kp out.

All very good reasons, IMHO, why the paleo diet should work for at least some forms of arthritis.

I am 56 years old and before going on this way of eating my arthritis was so bad in my knees and feet that I had difficulty walking and thought I'd have to go in for knee replacement surgery or end up in a wheelchair. I only had to cut out sugar, grains and processed foods (I still eat dairy in the form of cream, butter and cheese), and I'm almost completely pain free and can almost run up the 3 flights of stairs to my apartment carrying 40 pounds of groceries (so it's not due to my losing 32 pounds as some people seem to infer).

It worked for me but as you know there are many forms of arthritis. To my way of thinking, looking for dietary solutions first is always preferable to drugs.

So... how much carb do you do? I have wondered whether inflammation is simply caused by excess insulin production, due of course to high carb intake.

Dean: I would say I eat about 30-60 grams of carbs per day in the form of nuts, berries and vegetables. I try to stick to 10 grams of carbs per meal as suggested by Drs. Eades in Protein Power but sometimes I don't eat veggies with my meat. I bake it and then cover with sour cream sauce and/or grated cheese.

I tried eliminating dairy due to my asthma but that didn't help so I thought why bother when I love cheese. I'm now experiementing with lowering my carbs to see if that helps.

So, were you pretty high carb back in your "painful joint" days? I have noticed that when I up my carbs, my sinuses get bad. When I keep my carbs low, I can breathe! I use to think it was dairy, but I am starting to think it was excess insulin production. I am back to eating cheese and have experienced no sinus/mucus issues as of yet... but, I'm keeping the carbs low. I too love my cheese and am glad to be back to eating it!
