Default Party Food

I'm throwing a baby shower for my daughter in law. Noone there will be paleo but me, no one there will be low carbing but me. HOWEVER I'd like to draw on your collective exp for festive and beautifully presented foods for a buffet.

so far: a beautiful plate of sliced raw veggies w/homemade gaucomole as a dip (anybody have a good recipe? my old one called for sour cream)

and a platter of fresh fruit (pineapple, berries, etc)

a bowl of mixed raw nuts and seeds (this is edgy for the people I'm having over but hey why not)

Chicken wings baked till crisp

I'll most likely have some foods in the mix that aren't paleo for those who enjoy them too. But I'd like to offer healthy alternatives. T

LOL! I love that Mark Twain quote!

I can't think of a single party idea that you haven't got already! That sounds great!

If you want to make a small concession, make a lc cheesecake and it should be popular and satisfy all the sweet cravings. If you can find good quality cream cheese, make a nut crust with coconut oil and finely ground nuts of your choice. Or, maybe even a dried coconut crust with coconut oil. It could be yummy.

I've made pumpkin crisps or apple crisps (like potato chips) for people who need something to munch on.

Salsa is always a good option and it is so easy to make without inclusion of awful preservatives.

This is probably not shower appropriate, but my hubby makes gumbo for parties (without rice for me) out of shrimp, file powder (sassafras and thyme), tomato sauce and paste, and other meats.

Hope this helps.

Default more ideas

Thanks guys...also might experiment with "chicken satay sticks" which would be thinly sliced chicken breast or thigh marinated in "something" and put on soaked in water skewers (soaked so they don't catch fire) then broiled...for on the platter w/wings.

Gumbo sounds yummy but I'll save that for when I'm not having an old cherished patchwork quilt as the tablecloth!!!!

Mostly I'm aiming for things that are easy not too much fuss that'd keep me from our guests...and to make it a time of feeling welcome and celebrating new life!!!! I'm so excited to be a Grandma!!!! T

For the chicken skewers, you might consider dipping them in egg, then rolling in a mixture of crushed up pork rinds and sesame seeds (plus whatever seasoning you want). You could throw some black sesame seeds in there too for color, if you have them. I've made these before, and not only are they delicious, but they look nice too!

I would be so excited to go to a party with your list of food to be served! I have no extra ideas for you, but it sounds perfect to me, LOL!

Congratualations on being a Grandma! Is it your first grandchild?

Personally speaking, I always bring my own real food to parties as a vege platter or a large salad. Most people that I visit, consider lasagna, with garlic bread on the side as a healthy normal meal..... I am the crazy one.

Kallyn how did you make the skewers...baked, broiled, pan fried???

Yes Butterfly this is our first grandchild...a baby boy. Our son did some masters degree work in South Korea and met a dear Korean girl there. Brought her back home. Got married and now we will be having a baby in the family in March/April. So happy! Do you have grandchildren?

Any good ideas for shower games or activities? I'm asking guest to bring a baby picture so we can "match them up" and guess who's who. Also doing some creative encouragement ...poems, drawings, letters of encouragement and blessing or funny ones to gather in a basket to give the new Mom and Dad after the shower...it will be nice to have on hand at those times of exhaustion when the baby's been fussy and they need a smile.

btw...probably will also have a big green salad w/clementines, walnuts and shrimp...yum. T

I panfried mine and they came out golden and delicious. I bet no one would even know they are pork rinds and not bread crumbs/flour.

I think the ability to enjoy eggs must be a requirement for this diet... given our advice to people who come to us for breakfast ideas who are tired of eating eggs.

No grandchildren for me, I just finished making the grandchildren for my parents. I have 6 kids in total, 8 yo twins down to a 3 yo.

P.S. I am eating my hard-boiled eggs now. Maybe I should devil them.....
