So this morning, in a moment of half asleep weakness, I took two homemade cookies from the tray on the admin's desk: One white chocolate macadamia(my fave) and one chocolate chocolate-you know, when the batter has cocoa in it too.
They tasted like crap. I mean, really nasty. They tasted like the black ashy crap on the bottom of the oven from overspills. really. I could taste the crisco in them, and the carmelized, burnt tasting sugar. SO not made with butter, and even if it was, I dont think it would have made a difference. I picked out the one piece of white choc chip and the one whole macadamia and threw the rest away. And I feel not an ounce of guilt for wasting it-how can that be considered food?? I kept thinking, transfats: Yuck!
Oh my how my pallete has changed. To think all these years, christmas was all about big batches of cookies, in countless varieties, made just like these were. If Im gonna splurge, its gonna be to nibble on one of those wee scharffen berger 900% dark chocolate bits from downstairs, not hardened, flavored roux. Which, if you think about it, is what cookies are!
Its no accident that ROUX rhymes with GLUE.

Keep this in mind when the inevitable tray o cookies comes around your office. You want that in your guts? I dont think so.
