Unhappy Scared for my hubby

He had a GTT done about a month ago and his results show that he's hypoglycemic (lucky bugger) but that's just some background info. He's 42 and has smoked since he was 12 and was diagnosed with lung cancer over 10 years ago. With his last checkup it's looking like it's in remission.

What's happening now is the tip of his right little toe is black. I just checked it tonight and as I was looking at it he stated "It's spreading." and it is! He has an appt with the local podiatrist on Friday afternoon to have it looked at but he keeps saying they'll likely have to amputate....which scares the hell out of me, though he's taking it in stride...no pun intended.

Has anyone here experienced this or know someone who has where it turned out that there were other ways to treat it rather than the old school 'slash and dash'? Thanks!

He needs to go to the doctor immediatly. My father had Type 2 diabetes and developed an infection from an unhealed wound, if that is what he has than he needs to get in right away, my father didnt go in and developed blood poisoning. And could have lost his life to that alone. It is nothing to mess around with. They did have to take some of his bones out of his foot. The sooner you go in to get it looked at the sooner they can treat it, and he may not need to have anything taken.

Now is the toenail black? Or is the skin on his toe black? Cause there is a thing called black toe that athletes commonly get, and it's a build up of blood under the nail causing it to look black. Does his toe hurt? Does he have feeling in his feet? sorry for all the questions.

Like I said, he's hypoglycemic, so prone to low blood sugars. His nail is fine, it's the skin on his toe and it's only the tip but it is spreading slightly. We can't get him in until Friday and he's not concerned and I'm trying not to worry until we know what is going on...it's just that he really thinks it's dying and that they'll cut it off.

I would try not to worry until you get to the doctor. They will try to take any measures to cure the problem before they have to take anything. Hypoglycemia is usually a precurser to type 2 diabetes, although in some cases, with proper diet and nutrition, it can be avoided. Sounds like he has been through alot already. Since it sounds like he doesnt have a cut or a break in the skin to allow an infection to develop, it may be something as simple as a blood blister under the skin. If the tissue is black due to tissue death, it may not be as deep and they may only debreed the wound, and just remove the dead tissue. Keep us updated and I will say a prayer for you both. Hang in there!

Could it be Reynaud's disease? I think it is where the blood supply to the extremities gets compromised. Man, if I were you I'd be going to urgent care.

Some better news - the part that spread last night was pink this morning - so I'm seriously thinking blood blister (I hope and pray and thanks for everyones thoughts and prayers!)

We even got bumped up the schedule due to a cancellation, so I'll have more to report tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

So sorry for the delay in getting back on here. We're SO relieved!!! He's fine!!! It WAS a blood blister, as I had intially suggested, but due to the heavy callousing on his toes and feet it looked worse than it was. The Podiatrist used a smal scalpel and cleaned it all up witha nice pink toe tip underneath that looks oh so healthy!!!

Thank you all for your concern and prayers. Hoping you're all doing well!
