Default Diamond's Fit for Life

Anybody here tried Harvey Diamond's approach of food combining (within Paleo/Neandr parameters of course!)

Just picked up my old copy and reread some of it.

His take in order to cleanse the lymph system, have more energy and stamina:

1. Only raw fruit (or smoothies w/raw fruit only) and unpasteurized fruit juices should be eaten and drunk before noon. Have as much as you want pre noon.

2. He says fruit should not be eaten in combination w/any concentrated protein or starchy carb foods because fruit pases through the digestive system faster than the other foods. If you eat fruit w/other foods, it will ferment in your stomach and cause acid in your body and possibly heartburn, so wait to eat fruit 3 hrs after eating other foods or before you eat other foods (can't remember how long the wait...maybe an hour? I should check if someone wants to know)

3. Raw is best and should make up at least 1/2 of the days food. He recommends a honkin big salad at lunch combined w/protein if you like. Eliminate dairy and eggs.

4. Protein and starches:

Acid digestive juices break down proteins.
Alkaline digestive juices break down starchy carbs.

Alkaline and acid neutralize when combined so the food stays in the stomach hours longer when you combine proteins and concentrated carbs. So....

Have protein (raw nuts, anything w/a face) w/low carb veggies and veggie salads.

Have concentrated carbs (such as nonpaleo baked potatoes, pasta or grains) with veggies and veggie salads.

Be sure to wait several hrs before eating protein if you've had concentrated carbs.

His theory is that this approach streamlines the digestive process so our body diverts that energy into cleansing the lymph system and results in more energy, healing and a feeling of well being.

Also....drink plenty of water since our bodies are 70%water, our brain is 85% water and our lymph system fluid is 90%water. Get at least 20 min of moderate activity such as walking briskly, daily to get blood oxygenated.

So...anyone try this w/a neandr/paleo spin? I did this yrs ago (pre neandr) and felt great, lost lots of weight. Different in that it advocates lots of fruit and also integrates the time factor between eating diff kinds of foods.

Thanks, Terry

I've read his book.

I tried the "only fruit before lunch" thing, and it made me ravenously hungry all day long every time I tried it.

Besides the old book itself, I got my info from someone else's site that did an online interview with him. He wasn't saying to be lowcarb...I was. T

oh sorry!!

i've also read a theory that it's the fat in the presence of insuline that makes us fat so we can safely eat low/mid GI foods with fat but high carb foods can't be eaten with any fat. there are so many theories flying about!!

I have heard that our bodies can handle food eaten in any "order" or "combination". If anything, one should seek to "combine" protein and carbs, but only so they will assure themselves of getting enough of each!
