Default Run-Away Appetite...

.... for the last two days, I wanted to eat anything that wasn't nailed down. Not carby, sugary things, but Atkins-Induction kind of foods.
For instance, this morning I ate:
3 hard-boiled eggs
a handfull of boiled prawns from last night's dinner
.. about fifteen minutes later, I had to have two got dogs with cheese and mustard
...20 minutes later, I was still hungry. All this BEFORE, going to work at 9 am.

Thinking that the problem was that I may have needed more water than my customary two large glasses with breakfast, I downed two more large glasses (which i hate to do because it makes me want to use the bathroom before ending my 45-minute train commute into the city.)
Before getting off my train into in London, I was hungry AND had a full bladder. I ate some almonds and crossed my legs until i got to work now...

AND i am still feeling hungry.
what in the world is going on with my body?!

I have been wanting to eat nothing but meat for like 3 days and lots of it. I guess now all those leftover burgers and dogs from memorial day are gone I will have to quit eating sooo much. I don't know a whole lot about Atkins but if your hungry (for meat, induction food) then eat till your full.

Have you been working out more than usual...? Your metabolism might be buring up...which is good! Have you lost more weight, or gained?

This kind of hunger is a symptom of impending loss. Your body knows that it is about to lose and it is doing all that it can to make you eat up. Dr. A says that when this happens eat when you are hungry. Mmmm those prawns sound like goooood eatin'.

sometimes hunger can also indicate that you are dehydrated. make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

I find if I stop drinking water early in the evening, then by the morning my stomach is killing me!! And I know it's not hunger, it's because I didn't drink enough h20!

I changed formulations of alpha-lipoic acid supplement and went nuts with cravings for three weeks before I made the connection.

Artificial sweeteners will do it for me, too.

Reading the CAD list of triggers was helpful a while back.

I agree... I typically get hungry like that when I am going to lose. Eat if you are hungry.

That is me today too. However, I am trying to control it somewhat. I want to find out if the weight loss coming is true. I always cave in and eat way too much and don't see the loss right away. Crossing my fingers for tomorrow's weigh-in.

too much protein - its being converted to glucose and causing cravings. up the fat, lower the protein.

No two bodies are exactly the same and you need to find what works for your body. Some people do very well on a higher fat WOE while others do better on a higher protein WOE. Try both and see which works best for you.

Glucogenesis - the body making glucose from non-carb sources - occurs with both fat and protein. The process cannot raise blood sugar levels to the extent that an insulin surge will occur because the process the body uses to convert fat or protein to glucose is very slow - so the glucose trickles into your blood stream far too slowly to cause a surge. Also, the conversion process is activated by the body's need for glucose to run the very limited number of body systems that must have glucose for fuel and shuts itself down when that need is met. Here is a source that discusses the biochemical process involved and how the body regulates itself

Yep, I'd say to up your fat and see if that helps curb your hunger.

I, too, have an increase in my appetite right before I drop some weight so be happy! As long as you are truly hungry and not eating for other reasons, go ahead and eat, IMO.

If you ate something new (ie LC product or even a bit of something HC) I would say that's the reason (change to insulin), but it sounds like you're sticking closely to LC so my advice would be to go ahead and eat until you're satisfied, NOT stuffed.

Plan: Atkins as a loose guide

Default Same thing here.....

I feel for ya! Same thing happened to me yesterday - I was hungry all day. And even though I stayed within my carb limit and ate only good, low-carb foods, I am still UP a pound today. Phhhhttt!!!!!!

I noticed, however, that even though I was drinking my water, I wasn't going to the bathroom hardly at all. So, for some reason, I am apparently holding water. I had read somewhere (don't know if this is true or not but it's something to think about) that right before a loss, many people will gain a pound or two because when the cells lose fat, water rushes in to replace it temporarily. Then when your body realizes that these cells are not going to re-fill with fat, the water is released and whoosh! Again, I have no idea if this is true, but the theory does go hand-in-hand with the "if you're suddenly really hungry, you're about to lose" theory.

Good luck with the scales tomorrow - I'm hoping this extra pound of mine is gone by then as well!

maxmaxmax-thanks for posting this question!!!!

I hope that the theory of "about to lose some weight is true". I have been ravenous for 4 days now. I usually eat about 1800 calories a day and 30 grams of carbs (I'm on OWL). These past 4 days I've been up to around 2500 calories and between 35-4o grams of carbs per day. I was thinking maybe I was out of Ketosis and it had increased my appetite....maybe thats not true....cross fingers. My sticks are still pink....but they can lie. It's been All legal food. I've been pigging out on brussel sprouts, pork chops, steak and the like....who would of thought that would ever happen!! I use to pig out on candy and ice cream! No sugar cravings, just flat out hunger! The real deal! I am due for a whooshie. I seem to lose weight in whooshies intead of steady pound by pound readings. I have always believed the theory of the fat cells holding out with water....waiting to see if you will really are going to stick to this WOE. I hope this unbeviable hunger is for the same reason. If it is, I'll be happy like evryone else who is experiencing this!!!!

Lets all keep track and post if we receive a gift from the whooshie fairy!!!
