Default Discovery of using Vege/Fruits as LC-ing base

My mom always nagged at me to take more veges and fruits. and she hated the idea that i am a carnivorce....consuming so much chicken meats.

But after returning from a long LCing detour, i realized somehow she's correct. Because:-

1. I had too much proteins for the past 7 years of LCing, and its making me very thirsty. I am kind of afraid my kidneys cant take it.

2. My TOM becomes irregular...which if I have more foods from veges and fruits, it becomes regular.

3. i fear that constant intake of meats will not do good to my digestive system. i need to detox. coz sometimes inevitably i have to eat those barbecued stuffs...or i tend to mix with heavy sauces so as to make my meats tasty.

4. Its more difficult to consume proteins as the basis as compared to fruits and vegetables. it is like now if i cant find any veges/fruits to eat, i will go search for meats/fish. and it is def a very safe way of LCing. and surprisingly my old method of LC keeps me abt 60-100g of carbs a day. which compared to fruits and veges, i disregard their carb content...so end up i only consumed 20-40g of carbs a day.

5. The cost of LCing....buy 2 slices of ready to eat honeydew is S$1.20 but getting a small piece of chicken steak fr the supermart is like $2.40

LCing mainly with veges/fruits also made me felt the fat burning quickly.

My focus is now changed to fruits and vegetables and limiting abt 2 meals a day. Anyway just like eating proteins for a long time, 2 meals doesnt seem to make me very hungry now as I'm taking mostly from one food group. Sometimes i can go as far as to replace a meal with 2 pieces of fruit.

Btw, I also signed up for a tummy contour prog. Usually i dont take notice of my weight, but the consultant will nag at me. so after a wkend of bingeing (carefully choosing proteins/veges) at buffets, i was like 1 kg heavier. then i reverted to this new LCing, i lost close to 1.5 kg. Its within a week ...maybe its also some water lost coz I am also having my TOM now.

To sum it up, I can suggest this new method to fellow LC-ers who experienced a stall in their LCing:-

1. In a way having more fruits and veges does up the carb intake to trigger.

2. And having a 2nd safe layer of 'if no vege/fruits, choose meats' is definitely effective.

3. And no one is going to nag at you for not eating the normal way, anyway if you are seen with more veges and fruits nobody is going to think that you still missed something else (rice/bread/pasta/potatoes) and congratulate you for being a healthy eater (take it as they congratulate on ur LC too!) .

4. Cheaper.

5. Personally my TOM got more regular.

6. I think my digestive system improved.

Feedback or similar observations welcome.

Interesting thoughts you have there.

Being a vegetarian, I have always had fruits/vegetables as the base of my low carb program and as long as I have stuck to low carb ones, it hasn't been anything but good going.

Best of luck to you with it!

wow...it took me quite some years to discover this. so far have you experienced any plateau or just constant skin tightening =P ?

Now I am kind of 'lusting' after the fruit taste, after enjoying the taste of meats for years. Tho' I may still want to have something buttery/meaty....but I will always need a fruit after each meal.

Fumih - I have experienced one plateau which is right now after the 100lbs lost mark but I think that is not because of the veggies or fruits but because of other things. My skin hasn't tightened up really but I did lose quite a bit so I expected some loose skin for sure.

Preteach - what do you mean it doesn't sound exaclty like low carbing? Do you know you can also get much protein from some plant sources such as soy beans? Just because your diet is based on plants does not mean it is not low carb. As long as you leave out high carb fruits and grains you are good to go. I also include dairy in my diet so it is not completely plant based.

I agree that low carb vegetables should be at the bottom of an LCer's food pyramid. Think about it: we're visual creatures, and even on Atkins induction, you're supposed to eat three cups of veggies. You probably barely eat three cups of protein and fat foods. So sure, most of your calories are coming from calorie-dense protein/fat foods, but on a visual basis, veggies are easily the center of most meals.

Agreed!

My diet is by weight, mostly vegetables and fruit. For example I tend to eat bell peppers basicly every single day, and they are a fruit! I do eat all different types of meats and cheeses, but I don't go overboard like some lcer's tend to do. Some days I eat vegetarian when I include things like tofu instead of meat. Its working for me, and I feel great.

you know, when i first started my LCing, proteins such as meats/fish are the base of my diet pyramid.

Well I observed that sometimes if I had to drink a sweet drink or two, I do have a small plateau. But I still kept to my veges/fruits/smaller amt of meats/fish....and my ...I just went down a little today!

And in singapore, it is so much easier to feast on veges and fruits....anyway the gov rather support the vegetarians than meat-eaters. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf has started to provide low-carb meals....

Well yday i bought a pork knuckle for family dinner, tho now I am more vegetarian, I dont really mind eating it to my content.

I think it kinda broke the curse chain of not being able to go down and down trying to avoid the high starch s'porean foods. I wish that I have discovered this earlier. Now i cant do without tasting a fruit after each meal.
