Default What I've been eating, is it ok?

I'm on day 3 week 2. Lost around 7lbs so far.

I am eating:

First two days of week 1 I had scrambled egg made with whipped cream, 3 eggs, and 3 slices of bacon. Then switched to 3 fried eggs 3 slices of bacon as I'm none to keen on the whites I just eat the yolk.

During the day I'd have either a beef salad or more recently been getting into a bit of Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Smoked Mackerel, Fusion Salad (asian salad leaves) and 2 rashers of bacon chopped up with a dollop of mayonnaise.

And at nights I generally have either steak and mushrooms and greenbeans. Or cod fillet/marlin/tuna (all fresh) with greenbeans or brocolli or mange tout or cauliflower.

I drink about 2 litres of evian a day too at the moment. Oh and occasionally, twice so far in 10 days I've had a bit of cheese to nibble on when I'm peckish and its not meal time.

So my question really is does this sound right. I've read the book and it seems ok, but I'm just concerned I'm eating a hell of alot of meat and bacon and saturated fats that I'm doing something wrong. And it seems a pretty unforgiving diet to mess up on.

I'm starting to play squash again next week after 4 years of doing bugger all physically so I'm hoping I'll have enough energy, though with all that red meat I should be fine /rawr!

Thanks in advance

Matt

IN the first few weeks, it is most important that you eat things that will keep you on plan.

You aren't forced to eat bacon every day and I believe that the Atkins site may recomnmend it only a couple of times a week.

Learn to think "outside the breakfast box". Don't limit yourself to eggs. When making dinner, cook extra chicken or meat and reheat that for breakfast. Have you looked at the Recipe section? The mock Danish and the breakfast quiches are good ideas. Mock Danish can be made in different flavours - sweet and savoury - while the quiches are 'make ahead' muffins that even travel for lunch.

Otherwise, your menu looks good. Just become a very detailed label reader of all processed foods - check for hidden sugar and other carbs.

Hi Matt

From what you have said about your eating plans it sounds as if you have got it right. You might want to have more chicken and fish rather than steak on so many days - probably cheaper too! But on the whole the amount of saturated fat is not an issue. Whilst you think of meat as being saturated fat, it is about half saturated and half unsaturated, so not generally as bad as it seems at first sight.

Congratulations on your initial weight loss. May that continue.

Good on the water drinking. What other fluids are you drinking? You might want to increase them slightly, but you'll develop a taste for water as time goes on.

You might want to watch having bacon more than once a day as it is quite salty and may mean your body holds onto more water weight. How about chopped chicken, cheese, tuna with mayo for salad at lunch time for variety.

Every success for the future.

Ahh yes I'll cut down on bacon, though I've been buying the posh stuff from sainsburys so its not salty at all but I take your point.

I'm pretty much just drinking water, and water and more water.

I have had a couple of cups of decaff coffee in the 10 days.

So any tips on drinks be grateful I don't mind the water but at times I just crave a sip of my daughters coke haha! or at least something fruity

Its the breakfast I struggle with really , I don't mind eating the same thing for lunch every day, that smoked mackerel from sainsburys is just delish!! but I've got some tuna etc to have too when I tire of mackerel.

And I'll cut down on steak too, I was losing the will to eat it and I LOVE steak

So yeah Breakfasts, I'd need something I can prepare night before to be honest as I have about a 30 minute window to prepare and eat brekky before I trudge off to the train station and commut.../yawn

Anyway thanks for the comments much appreciated

I take my breakfast and lunch to work. Things you can eat are chicken wings (cook them yourself and becareful of any coated ones), sliced cooked meats, pate (there are some lowish carb crackers. I use Hovis Wheatgerm which are 3.7 per cracker), have a look at the newbies questions, sticky at the top, for some other ideas. You could have cold sausages or beefburgers (again watch the carbs). Have a look at the sticky at the top of this forum for ideas in UK supermarkets.

I do still drink a couple of cups of coffee a day and often drink flavoured tea, blackcurrent is my favourite. You could drink flavoured mineral water, like Coke it has aspartamene as a sweetner, but in moderation it is probably fine.
