Unhappy Induction - weight loss stalled

Hi all. I've been on induction for a week and a half. At first it went like a dream (discounting the headaches and tiredness). I lost 10lbs in the first six days. However, since then, my weight has stalled. It's been five days now since I shifted any at all. Please take the time to look over my food diary and tell me if I'm going wrong anywhere.

Monday
Ham omelette
Tuna salad
Fish, stir fried veg

Tuesday
Ham/cheese omelette
Chicken salad
Chesse stuffed chicken, creamed leeks

Wednesday
Bacon, egg, veg sausage, tomato
Seafood salad
Steak, stuffed pepper

Thursday
Bacon, egg, veg sausage, tomato
Crayfish salad
Spaghetti squash bolgnese

Friday
Ham/cheese omelette
Salmon, salad, vegetables
Tandori chicken, sag paneer

Saturday
Bacon, egg
Advantage bar
Cheese topped chilli pie

Sunday
Ham/cheese omelette
Advantage bar
Leftover chilli, cauliflower rice
Advantage bar

Monday
Advantage bar
Crayfish salad
Thai curry, cauliflower rice

Tuesday
Advantage bar
Tuna salad
Tetiyaki chicken, green beans, tofu

In addition, I've not drunk any alcohol, caffeine or diet drinks and taken 8 cups of water a day. For occasional snacks I've had pepperamis (garlic sausage).

Hi there,

You might want to eliminate the Advantage bars. For some people the sugar alcohols in them cause stalls in weight loss. Also most folks on this site would tell you to avoid them while on induction at least. If you feel the urge to snack, there are other options.

You might also want to determine your daily carb counts based on your portion size by using fitday. www.fitday.com This will quickly help you determine if you are stalled due to metabolism quirks or stalled due to exceeding your 20 gram/day allowance.

Good luck to you!

According to Atkins' site, the Advantage bars should be OK on induction but I was thinking the same seeing as the stalling only started after I discovered Advantage bars. Strangely the testing strips show that I'm still in moderate-to-high ketosis.

I don't know if sugar alcohols will knock you out of ketosis. And yet many others here will tell you that they *can* cause stalling. It varies from person to person, however. You may be susceptible to stalling due to malitol or whatever the bar contains.

By the way, there is an excellent informative section to the right of your page called "The truth about low carb sweeteners info". Check it out!!!

Actually it is not uncommon for you to slow a little after the initial weight loss. Your body sometimes takes a little time to "get used" to its new weight. A true stall would be 6 weeks with no pounds or inches lost. So you are fine. I know it can be discouraging but just stick with it and you will see that scale moving down in no time! Congratulations on your excellent success so far!

Gotta jump in with a correction here. The Advantage bars do NOT contain sugar alcohols. These are the high-protein meal replacement bars and not the Endulge candy bars. The candy bars have sugar alcohols.

The Advantage bars are sweetened with glycerin, which is a natural sweetener and a building block for lipid molecules.

However, neither the candy bars nor the meal replacement bars should be eaten on induction.

An Advantage bar can serve as either a snack or an occasional meal replacement. Feel free to eat them during Induction as long as you continue to lose weight. (We generally recommend no more than one bar or shake a day during the first two weeks of Induction.) But keep in mind that neither the Atkins shakes nor the bars were formulated to be total meal replacements. Atkins does not recommend the use of meal replacements for more than one meal a day; instead, it is important to eat whole, unprocessed foods to learn wholesome eating habits.

Bit of a vexed question then, this.

yep drink more, dump the bars, and up the fat. Cut some of the bacon and prepared meats, way full of salt. 8 cups of water might sound like alot but it's not. Most people here drink 3-5+ liters of water a day. You might try to add in more veggies. When you started in on the bars your veggies went down drastically.

You and I are about the same weight. When I first started I was having problems keeping my fat/calorie intake up. I was on a daily basis between 1200-1500 calories. As soon as I upped it to 1900-2000 with added fat I started losing .5-1 pounds a day. I just added in 1T coconut oil at breakfast and 2T of olive on salad at lunch. It didn't add more food, which I knew I couldn't handle, just fat- which I needed.

(edited) but lol I just saw you are a guy not a girl- so same weight is a little different for me than you- but still works the same for the amount of cal/fat you need.

Don't fall into the same "newbie" trap I did. When I first started I was so busy trying this bar, that SF candy, this new recipe, whipping cream, etc. Once I got that out of my system and bulked up on my veggies and fat I started losing great.

Also did you measure? You might be suprized how many inches you have lost. You are doing great- keep going, make changes as necessary- this is a game, you just need to find the right playing peice for you. Sometimes you just have to experiment what is right for you. Be the monopoly horse not the hat! (I was the hat when I first started, now I feel like I've finally at least moved up to the shoe!

In agreement, lack of weightloss is not a sign of a stall. If you are losing inches, which I am sure that you are, you are not stalled. Perhaps you should not get on the scale for 2 weeks. nothing creates a stall like a watched scale ;-). Give your body some time to make needed adjustments, you'll lose the weight.

I'd agree with the others and lighten up on the Advantage Bars. It's painfully obvious that they're stalling you.

And what's up w/ the "veg sausage"? Gotta watch those types of "meats", as they are full of fillers, which can also slow you down.

Being male, you automatically have more of a metabolic advantage, btw. Wait it out a week or so, and you should see another good whoosh.

You've lost 10 lbs in 12 days??? SWEEEEET... You've got to look at the average. Some days - even weeks - you are just not going to loose, and then whooooosh. Your body needs time to adjust.

The book may say that Atkins bars are OK, but there are some people here that have problems with them. Your real, true best bet is to eat NATURALLY as possible. Don't rely on a bar! Don't be resistant to giving them up for a while.

Also, are you using www.fitday.com ? if not, you should be. I'm seeing some things I'm not sure about but not knowing details about them, dunno.

The spagetti squash is a bit higher in carbs (6.98g per cup) . Is there sugar in the tandori chicken? What is sag paneer? What exactly is in the chilli (the beans are a no-no right now)?

While your menu certainly looks healthy (except the bars - sorry I just don't trust that stuff), I'm not positive that it's induction friendly. Start using fitday if you are not.

I agree on the 10 pounds being sweet, it's taken me 6 weeks to lose that- with a little holiday cheating thrown in there.

Remember this is not a quick weight loss program. Slow and steady wins the race.

Thanks for all the encouragement and advice, guys. To clear up: the veggie sausages are Linda McCartney brand - 2.8g of carbs and some fibre. I've since moved over to a lower carb, meat sausage for my cooked breakfasts. Will hold the Advantage bars for a few days, drink more water, cut down the bacon and eat more fat; see where that gets me. I'm still pleasanty surprised by how 'do-able' this diet is. I've been living with a veggie for two years and had forgotten how good meat tastes. I'm also about to take delivery of low-carb pasta, wheat tortillas etc which should add some variety.
