Aren't they tasty Fern? I actually regularly trawl ALL the main supermarkets in my quest for good, low carb food and have found that all the "Finest" (or equivalent) do an excellent range of quality sausages. I am currently addicted to M&S Beef, Red Wine & Caramelised Onion ones, also at 2.29.

My other mega fave at the mo is Lamb Koftas from Waitrose. 3.99 for four (I find one is enough for lunch with a green salad) and only 1.3 gr carbs per kofta.

Then at Morrison's it's Yorkshire Potted Beef, delicious on a Ryvita Dark Rye..... I could go on for hours!

Well one of my faves when I crave pizza is to slice up a Spanish chorizo, add on some tomato puree (skip if in induction), sprinkle on some oregano, then some grated cheese. Nuke for 30-50 seconds and voila, mini pizza!

Also, sandwich ham - spread with cream cheese and chives. Roll up. Slice. Ham and cheese roulades in a second.

I buy a packet of salted mixed nuts from Sainsbury's. Melt some unsalted butter in a frying pan, add the nuts and some chilli powder and warm through. Delicious with a glass of Merlot!

I make bulk batches of meatballs - don't add any binding agent to the mince other than onion. To make sure they bind, process the mince in a processor till almost congealed. Make into balls, fry and freeze. Nuke for 2 minutes and dip in creme fraiche. Excellent fast food.

Mix a tin of tuna with mayonnaise and caraway seeds. Add a slice of emmental or gruyere cheese and nuke for 1 minute. Delicious tuna melt. The caraway seeds really make all the difference.

Ah thanks Izzy, but it's a bit chilly in Scotland However, being a snackaholic I do loads of different things so will post here as they come to mind!

D'ya know, I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing to substitute bread for. Bread is bread is bread. You just can't make a low carb version with any degree of satisfaction in my opinion and I've tried many recipes and suggestions and they just don't cut it. Most of them are disgusting.

Now I am so close to goal, I can have bread though in limited quantities. However, I exercise daily which has allowed me to up my carb intake significantly. I still restrict myself to no more than two slices daily, and that's at breakfast so I can burn it off during the day.

What stage of Atkins are you in Izzy? Weight Watchers Danish Malted Toaster bread has around 8g of carb per slice so you could try that. Be careful though, bread is very addictive and you don't want to go off course as you are doing so well.

I really craved bread and crisps when I first started (I was on Atkins then) and just stayed away though it was hard. I found the more fat I ate the less I craved carbs.

Sorry I can't be more help on the bread front!

Hi Ecco66
I have a very good heating system in my house you know? hahah ony jokin,
ive just restarted the atkins, i did it last year for about four months and lost 3 stone, but i got sick to death of eating meat as i'm not a big fan of it. i could easily be a vegi. except for chicken and bacon ,oh yes and tuna.
almost finished the induction partof it and my intestines are playing havoc, still its all in a good cause , well thats what i tell myself, :
my bread hunt goes on then ive heard hovis crackers are pretty nice, i'l get some on shop day.
Time to go get some more water, catch u later
good luck with you goal

Central heating.... hmm well if you can install central sunshine too I will be on the next train from Kings Cross he he he!

Wow Izzy, 3 stone is very impressive! Remember that Atkins - or any low carb - isn't just about meat. Once you are past induction then you can up the veg and lower the meat. Don't forget hard boiled eggs - I boil up 12 at a time and keep them in the fridge. Aah, with dijon mustard and mayo they are fab!

Intestines - are you taking cod liver oil? Fish oils are very healthy anyway. I take 1000mg a day. They "oil the wheels" so to speak!

Dark rye Ryvita are my fave for bread substitute - mix marmite with butter, spread on then melt cheese on top and I am in heaven!

Well done again on 3 stone, keep it up!

Gosh Fern, I do snack so much it just comes naturally now so it's hard to remember all the concoctions I come up with! What I had tonight though was half a chopped cucumber with mint, white wine vinegar and dolloped with sour cream - hmmmm - that accompanied a steak and asparagus (in season, a delight) sauteed in butter and garlic.

With wine (or any grain spirit - careful of any mixer you use though) you will not gain weight if you drink in moderation. What happens is that if your body is on a restricted carb diet it will burn fat for fuel. However, if you consume booze it will burn that first - so you won't gain weight, but you won't lose any till you have burned the alcohol off, when you got back to burning fat.

Steer clear of beers though, so high in carbs it ain't funny. Except of course the rare low carb ones!

Carb monster is an evil thing Izzy!

That was me mentioning the wine, see my reply to Fern.

Do make sure you don't knock back too much - though if you exercise you can knock back more.

I know I keep harping on about it but trust me - when you are low carbing exercise just speeds up the benefits. Try try try....
