It's an extra book he wrote around the time of DANDR which I follow.
I saw this at a resale last year and bought it and the entire book is devoted to vitamins and nutrients to treat illness verses using pharmaceuticals.
It's full of amazing information with thousands of patient examples....
It's called "Dr. Atkins Vita-Nutrient Solution"

ps I just took a look and it was written in 1998 by Atkins.

As Nicekitty mentioned, you can raise your carb level to be out of ketosis (not necessary to lose weight) and still eat grain-free, nutrient-dense, non processed foods. Add a variety of vegetables, sweet potatoes, tubers, legumes like lentils or black beans, fruits, banana, nut meals, etc. The idea with AIP is to raise the nutrient density of foods and remove the foods that may damage the integrity of your gut lining like all grain proteins, and that includes many processed food additives like hydrolyzed vegetable protein made from wheat. A list of foods and additives to avoid and All the good foods you can eat here: http://www.chewfo.com/diets/wheat-b...ood-list/#avoid

As Janet has said, many people with autoimmune issues find that in addition to removing wheat and other grains, they also need to remove dairy, eggs and soy. Nuts and nightshades can also be a problem.

Here's hoping my appt with the specialist happens soon!!!

It's entirely possible that it's not the diet to blame for the pain and fatigue. Have you had blood work done recently?

Thanks, Meme, I'll check into that.

Thank you for the list, Janet, that's a great place to start.

Cotonpal, all of those? Wow.

Comanchesu, I did have blood work done just a few months ago. All came back good to go except vitamin D and I've been on a mega-dose of that since then.

One thing it does talk about is taking a lot of vitamin C.
The section before FM is about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome(which he says is treated simularly) where he talks about possible yeast die off as possibly being one problem. Yeast does love carbs and sugar...

The longer I think about it, the more I wonder if this isn't to blame for the increase in pain.

DANDR 1992-2002, chapter 25 is all about Yeast as well as several other areas in the book.
Several things he lists as possible causes of yeast, Candida overgrowth are:
High sugar and carb diet
Antibiotic use-20weeks in a lifetime or 4 times in a year
Prednisone use
birth control pills
any immune suppress condition
Stress

This is a short list of some of the foods to use in moderation or omit for now are cheese, vinegar, mushrooms and anything that is fermented or high in mold.

If you can find your book and read chapter 25, it has a world of information on this topic.

Wow Janet, your resources amaze me ~ is it a hobby of yours to study this stuff?

My doc said my liver could be an autoimmune situation and I have LOTS of pain in my body ~ this past few days it's so bad I can't sleep ~ wondering if what I'm eating on induction is making it worse.

I had this test done and I am only at 50% so I have to take a supplement for life but didn't know that low carb was important for it! Thanks!

In addition to a low-carb diet, there are some supplements that can help a lot. And gluten-free gut healing is absolutely something to look into.

Artificial sweeteners, for instance, are considered "allowed" on an Atkins plan... unless they stall people or otherwise cause problems. And you say Atkins-ish. Let me just guess you aren't a strict meat & vegetables person?

That alone might be a problem in adapting to your new, more healthful, regimen.

I have been told many times I "missed my calling" as a researcher.
Just a hobby these past five years, but since my decision to go LC flys in the face of standard advice given for a healthy diet to prevent cancer, There is a strong personal interest to be sure this really is healthy for ME.

Only because a friend I helped "go LC" ended up with an allergy to eggs, I am aware that overeating something could be problem. Eggs, dairy, an additive in processed meats?...try to keep your induction menu balanced. Stick to NANY with more vegetables than DANDR. Since you wrote in the enzymes thread that you are hypothyroid, and autoimmune version of hepatitis could be involved...so like for the OP, try a more AIP approach. The three popular plans, all in our library, are Dr Sarah Ballantyne's AIP, Dr Terry Wahls, and Dr Amy Meyers.
