Thanks Judy!
I started using my SBD Cookbook.
Trying out new recipes so I wont get into the same-old-same-old routine which usually leads to a cheat. Having the right things on hand is making a difference, PLUS I got my DH on board and we are being accountable to one another.

Just sneaking back in. September has been ridiculously indulgent, especially with spending a few days in London for our little boy's birthday. Well, an early birthday while daddy had time off work, but you get the idea. We had a gorgeous Lebanese meal on Friday and I fell upon the salad like a woman possessed. Never have I felt so glad to see vegetables before!!

So, back on the wagon today with Phase 1, probably for the full two weeks!! On the plus side, I had to punch a smaller hole in my belt the other day, so something good's been happening!

Hi Angela!

What was it about that salad that made you so happy?
We have a huge selection of veggies in our phase I that we can eat as much as we like.
Perhaps you can recreate that type of salad at home?

It was tabbouleh, but with hardly any bulgar wheat. I'll certainly be recreating it at home It was just so lovely to taste zingy, fresh vegetables again and I felt great after the first mouthful!

OK...but what other veggies were in the Tabbouleh?
Here, tabbouleh I've had is made with wheat germ....bulgar wheat is a good idea too.
What made the veggies zingy?

Oh, just your regular tabbouleh. So, chopped parsley mainly, a little chopped coriander, chopped deseeded tomatoes, little bit of chopped red onion. Plenty of salt and pepper, with a dressing of lemon juice and olive oil. It was all incredibly fresh produce but I think my craving for something green made it taste even better

I do tend to avoid wheat....I'd like to try to make this salad with brown rice instead of any wheat at all.
When I buy this pre made salad, I find that I will eat larger portions that I should. I think that the wheat( even just the germ) truly does trigger my appetite.

Do you think that it'd taste as good with the brown rice?

I'd be more inclined to try buckwheat or quinoa than the brown rice and use a greater ratio of vegetables to grain. I think they'd suit the mouthfeel of the salad better. I don't have too much of a problem with wholewheat, so I'll sling in a little bulgar when I'm in phase 2 again.

The best thing about the meal, however, was that it got our little boy eating enthusiastically again. He loved dipping things in hummous and moutabal, and digging a huge spoon into the pile of tabbouleh. I will happily bend over backwards to do mezze style meals if it means he'll eat a decent amount of food per day. He was so stuffed that his belly button popped out! (And he got up and started belly dancing when some drum solo music started. I hadn't realised how much attention he'd paid to my own dancing over the years!)

Just adding my latest weigh-in. Somehow I have managed to maintain despite being totally off-plan. Having a good Phase 1 day so far, and am feeling in control!

Good that you did not gain, Angela....I moved your weighin to this week.
Do you plan to do a few days of phase I again now?
