Default Spaghetti Squash Spotted!

Just to let people know that I spied three spag squashes on sale yesterday in Tesco (the Hemel Hempstead one) ... I didnt buy one this time, but thought that I would pass the info on!

The Hemel Tesco is relatively small as well so hopefully they are everywhere!

Hi Lynda!

I would probably just make a spag bol - and smother it with cheese! Should be nice!

I saw another recipe for a 'normal' squash where you cut it in 3/4 (as though you were making a pumpkin head for Halloween), scoop out the seeds in the centre and then fill the cavity with grated cheese, cream and lots of salt and black pepper - pop the 'lid' back on and then place in a medium oven for about 35 mins - when you open it up it is like soup in an edible bowl! ... I will make it one day!

I'll have to check out my local tesco (Manchester). Nobody seemed to have a clue what a spaghetti squash was when I asked around. Thanks for the advice.

Tesco usually sells them in the Mixed Squash box. You have to rummage for a bit. They're not bad - a bit watery for my taste but then I'm fussy lol.

Hi Lisa!

How do you cook them?!? Are they fussy to prepare?

FOUND: spaghetti squash in the big Tesco in Falkirk!
It was, as someone else mentioned, in a mixed squash box, and it was the only spag squash in the box!

Waitrose stores carry spaghetti squash rather regularly. My local (Worcester Park) almost always has a few.

Hey Nitwit - no, they're easy actually. I pierced the thing with a skewer and microwaved it for about 30 seconds - makes it easier to cut in half. Then scooped the seeds out, placed the halves cut side down on w WELL oiled baking sheet and baked in a medium oven until the whole thing was soft when stuck with a knife.

Try this. I made it to go with grilled lambs steaks.

Stab a spaghetti squash a few times
Microwave for 10 mins
Allow to cool for a minute or so
Cut in half, scoop out seeds and using a fork, scrape the insides until the flesh comes away in strands.

In a bowl mix 200mls of thick d/cream with tablespoon of mustard and 100g of strong cheddar.

Put spaghetti squash in a gratin dish and mix with the cream/cheese mixture. Sprinkle with a bit more cheddar and bake at 180 for about 20 mins.

Delicious and stodgy!

Tony

No. It stays the same as it looks when you dig it out.
