I think that's called "canned tunafish."

Yep. I've had to live in hotels and motels for weeks at a time on "business" (volunteer work and the like) and would get by on canned fishes, nuts, pork rinds, cheese, and such when I could. For weeks on end.

hi-
I reallly appreciate this post. I have a conference in the same hotel 2xyear, adn they think they are being great to offer "low fat" - so it is ALL carbs. I go to the hotel restaurant and get a side order of eggs. I know the waitress by now- they charge me $2 and I give her the same in a tip- I get a plate of fresh eggs. I take those individual cream cheese containers from the bagels in the breakfast room and add it to the eggs- happy. I'll drink the free coffee but not the junk that comes with it!

Someone years ago also gave me great suggestions for times you can't get a fridge in your room. First, if there is a fridge filled with the 'bar' items, call the manager and explain you will be removing those items as you need to use the fridge for medically necessary foods.
Second- if no fridge at all, find a 7-11 or walmart type place or a supermarket and buy a cheap styrofoam cooler- keep it filled with with hotel ice and voila-

E

I know I'm late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I had a similar experience when I went to San Fran two years ago. The only difference was that since it was a student medical conference, we had to bring our own food or eat the continental breakfast and sandwiches that were on hand. I brought boiled eggs and bacon for the plane ride there, had some of that awesome chicken at the terminal markets, had burgers at Carl Jr's and found a whole foods to buy some food for the ride home. It is possible to be on plan, even in San Fran which is really expensive (like New York expensive!). Just takes planning and commitment.

Ach! I live in Oakland and worked for a long time downtown. I could have directed you to several inexpensive delis with salad bars where you can pick and choose your low carb goodies. Many of them have hot breakfast bars for your eggs and sausage and bacon. Lees delis are all over downtown-thats first in my head.

the ferry building ROCKS, but is hella expensive. I mean, HELLA.

FYI, if anyone else finds themselves traveling to sf, email me and Ill give you the LC Lowdown, ok?

I travel a LOT on business and calling the hotel to make sure that there is a fridge in your room is a fantastic idea for staying on track. I usually go out to dinner at night with colleagues, but save half of my steak and eat it for breakfast the next morning.

Most hotels DO have extra fridges that they will put in your room upon request. You just have to ask.

Thanks! I was born and raised in Oakland so def know my way around both. Much of the issue was time constraints. Luckily I am not a "breakfast" eater and practice IF. But am always looking for new places.

What part of Oakland?

I live out by Eastmont (yes, I know, but its a nice pocket in the hood, and the only place we could afford a 4 bedroom house), but work downtown. welcome back!
