Default hi!

Hey just started looking at this -- been exercising vigorously 5 - 6 times a week since Oct. 2008-- not losing much weight or gaining control of my high blood pressure--have been following the DASH diet but it ain't happenin folks! I actually get frustrated enough I feel like crying! That is hard for a 60 year old to admit! I really want to lose the weight and be around for my wife, grand kids and kids. Anyone out there have experience with blood pressure and the various low glycemic diets? My physician actually recommended that I look into these. Thanks! Jimusaa

Hi there, Jim.

I think many posters here can empathise with you. I'm new here, too, and I've never even heard of the DASH Diet.

I do know that there are many messagethreads discussing weight stalls which are actually attributed to exercise.

Also, lots of people don't lose weight because they eat so little that their body has gone into "starvation mode," and is determined to hang on to every single molecule of excess fat.

Many times it is reported that weight occurs when people add FAT to their diet, and make sure to keep the protein to like 30% of daily dietary intake.

You'll want to explore the different diet forums and see if there's another plan that you're interested in trying.

I forgot to post links to forums dealing with diabetes. Sorry!

There's some interesting postings about a doctor who worked with diabetics over in the forum called: Schwarzbein Principle which is located here:

And here is a link to a forum dealing with diabetes, which must have lots of posters who know about low-glycemic diets:

Thanks for the welcome and info--I will look into the diets you have specified -- it is difficult to get my head around the diet plans and find one that works with me-- but if you don't try there is no progress! Jimusaa

Jim
I realise this is a real old post, but wanted to see how you are doing? Have you picked a plan? My doctor suggested I do the Glycemic Load diet. It is by Rob Thompson, MD. I got it out from the library and am currently reading it. She gave me her guidelines, I am just reading the book to better understand it. Just thought I would throw that out there in case you haven't read it.
