It's the one thing I really don't like about this lifestyle -- honestly. Unless the whole world eats like this, or you live on an island by yourself, there is no way around it some times.
I am actually in charge each year of making certain typical Italian dishes -- it's a tradition and I am not going to change it just because of ONE person (me) -- and trust me when I say, no one there wanted to eat Calli pizza or spaghetti squash. As a result, I did actually eat some pasta etc., but the big difference was my portions. I simply ate very little of the high carb stuff and concentrated instead on veggies, cheeses, wild game and other stuff. I never eat sweats so that was easy... and left it to everyone else.
All in all, even on Atkins, in certain rare situations like this I move towards moderation and portion size when I simply cannot say no to 30 people and don't want to be the kill-joy of the evening. Easy peasy. Been doing it for years now and I think i am the only one that come New years, has actually lost 1 or 2 LBS.

I do cook high carb or LC when others come and visit to please them , but I stick to my own food plan, I am not willing to destroy my health and the good work I have done for the sake of being the jolly fun person in someone else's eyes.... I can't believe all Italian food is about pasta and pizza, I know they have a lot of fatty meat/fish dishes, you could have prepared one for yourself and left the pasta for others who don't care for their health.... if having the dinner at someone else's place, just offer to bring your own food, if eating at a public restaurant, I usually eat loads before going, so if there is nothing for me to eat, I am not even tempted to go off plan.
