Default MAYO (12 day on/2 day off) vs. Atkins

I need to do a low carb because nothing else is working for me. I was wondering if anyone has tried the 12 day on / 2 day off diet or it might also be called Mayo Diet---where it is mainly protein with low or zero carbs. I want something where I won't have to cook much, easy things to prepare and not too complicated. Although, I would like to do the Atkins, I find that I just wouldn't know what to eat.

Any advice? Suggestions?

I tried it last year. I hated it!!!!!! I was hungry all the time, and believe me, I did it by the letter. Well here's a site that I used to frequent every day when I did Mayo http://www.cybersoulsisters.com/diet/diet.html

Good Luck

Jeep,

I did the Mayo diet in 2000, and ended up losing about 35 pounds. I had no hunger issues at all, and waaaay over did the carbs on the weekend. I did end up sort of combining Mayo and Atkins just by eating LC for 12 days (at ketosis level), and taking 2 days off like Mayo.

Based on reseatch I have done since then, it looks like the the occasional off days (or Carb ups) reset your leptin levels and help you to avoid the stalls to a certain degreee.

I ended up regaining my weight because I missed the WOL message and went back to my old uncontrolled bread/ice cream eating habits and am now doing a similar version based on the Natural Hormonal Enhancement (NHE) plan...I learned a ton about how the body reacts to the various diet changes, so now I am doing LC with a CU meal twice a week (70% carbs, limited fat, limited protein).

Also, you may want to check out the carb cycling threads, as Mayo and NHE are both forms of carb cycling. There is an intro thread and a weekly support thread.

Hope this helps a bit!
