Default advice for breakfast..hate eggs!

Hi all,
I'm starting atkins tomorrow (lost about 15 pounds 3 years ago) but am dreading the mornings b/c I hate eggs. Anyone have any suggestions for breakfast? Are the atkins morning start breakfast bars ok for induction? The box says yes but I'm not too sure. Thanks, and wish me luck.

When I was eating breakfast, I ate leftover protein. I saved "breakfast food" for about once a week, or when I didn't have any leftovers, which was pretty rare, so that I wouldn't get tired of it. Think outside the box, if you can. Anything you like to eat at any other time of the day can also be breakfast. I did the Slim Fast LC shake about once a week from the very first week.

I agree with Elle. Breakfast can be anything you want it to be. I think it's great to have stuff like chicken salad, all made up and in the fridge for times you need to eat and run.

Welcome Rubicom
I always make sure there are left overs for breakfast because I don't have time to make it and I wake up hungry and ready to eat my arm after going to the gym. My sister (who is my guide, she was successful and has kept it off) told me she ate salad for breakfast, which I thought was nasty at the time. Low and behold, I eat salad for breakfast about 4 days a week. Look on the recipe section on this forum for really great breakfast recipes! Good luck to you.

I'm a big fan of salmon/cream cheese roll-ups. I also have some whitefish salad in the fridge specifically for when I have little time.

Regarding your question about the breakfast bars being ok for Induction...NO, they are not ok for Induction. They contain things like soy, peanuts & milk...all of which are not on the acceptable foods list for Induction. They also claim to have 2 or 3 net carbs and arrive at that calculation by deducting for glycerin, which is a sugar alcohol. Personally, I'd steer clear of them while you are on Induction. You might experiment with them when you are in the later stages of Atkins to see if they stall your weight loss or not.

There are some great recipes for quiches & even for a "mock danish" you might enjoy. Lots of Induction friendly recipes too. They are marked with an *.

All the best to you!!

I eat nitrate free bacon in the morning. 1-2 pieces because I hate breakfast, but I know it is important to jump start my metabolism in the morning. I believe it is why I have been successful at this. I sometimes munch on it twice in the morning. Anyways there are other things other than eggs. There's canadian bacon-I put some mayo on top of it--yum. Sometimes I dip my bacon in mayo...yum. Sometimes I eat breakfast for dinner and dinner for breakfast...yum!

I love eggs, but can't do them every morning.

i'm like you... i actually hate eggs. i have NEVER been able to stand the taste of them. but i realized they were a necessary evil when i started low-carbing. fortunately, eggs are BEAUTIFUL vehicles for all sorts of other flavors.

when i make omelettes, i sautee sliced mushrooms and garlic first, then i beat 3 eggs with TONS of pepper, garlic powder, and dill and pour that over the mushrooms and garlic. i load the middle up with sliced tomatoes and cheese. by the time i'm done, all i taste is the veggies and cheese... no egg taste left.

i also do sweet versions... cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla in the egg mixture, filled with cream cheese mixed with splenda.

the same goes for devilled eggs. the yolks get mashed up with mayo and strong spices so that's all i taste.

experiment with herbs and spices and flavors... see what combinations you like. use leftover meats from the night before as fillings. as far as i'm concerned, eggs are perfect as long as i can't taste them .

In my mind there's no such thing as "breakfast foods." I love eggs and frequently have them for my evening meal and I've been known to break my fast with chicken curry. If you want to eat chicken or a hamburger for breakfast go for it. Life's too short to eat food you don't like!

Linda actually has an entire breakfast category/page, but it is somewhat hidden in "odds and ends" (or something like that). The direct URL is http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/breakfast_ideas.html. Lots of ideas.

Leftovers make awesome breakfasts. I only heat up stuff I absolutely have to, too. Sometimes a night in the fridge makes things 10x better than the night before.
