The fat fast is completely outlined in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. I think it would be the safest bet.

But, Dr. Atkins specifies that it is for people with severe metabolic resistance, not for people who want quick weight loss.

Atkins outlines the Fat Fast very clearly on pp 239 - 242 of DANDR, the 1992 edition. I don't know the page reference for the latest 2002 edtion.

You've been on Atkins for 3 weeks. The fat fast is intended as a stall breaker, for someone who's been low-carbing for a long time, and stalled out for 6 or more weeks with no loss of lbs or inches. It serves to re-establish ketosis and fat-burning for those who may be metabolically resistant. It is very low in calories, and deficient in protein .. and not recommended to follow for more than a few days.

I've done the fat fast myself, with no result .. it didn't speed things up, but I will say that it definitely got me back into ketosis. You will be VERY hungry as it's only 1000 calories, and 900 of those must be fat. That's ony 100g fat or about 10 Tbsp heavy cream or a couple handfuls of macadamia nuts.

Default Fat Fast

I seem to have stalled - I am cutting cheese out altogether to see if that helps. I looked in Dr. Atkin's 'new' book this morning and couldn't find anything on how to do the "fat fast" - can someone help.

Thanks.

In the new book it is on page 272. He talks about what it is, when to do it, and how to modify it.

When I was doing the study project, I did 2 fat fasts of macademia nuts and cream cheese and a bit of chicken skin with chicken attached. The first time I lost 2 pounds overnight, the second time just one. These two fat fasts were a week apart. I did not continue the project beyond two weeks.
