To combat this, discover your local farmers market.

This is where consumers meet producers. Often these producers have on farm stores but many dont. Having the public on farm creates another level of work for the producer.

One veggie producer in FL bikes his lettuce etc to a nearby corner store where the locals can buy bags of fresh veggies.

This is the time to find those sources. The farmers markets are on full swing in the northeast of the USA. Other areas may have year round farmers markets.

Ask questions. Do you grow this? Some market produce from other producers. Ask. Where is your farm? Be understanding if a street address is not supplied. Nothing more irritating than unscheduled visitors upsetting the work schedule. When just ,1-2 people are running their farm, there isn't time during harvest season to cope with visitors.

Find and support locally grown produce.
