It could be considered a hypothesis on its own, though I prefer to think of it as a paradigm, a collection of hypotheses. This paradigm fits in the carbs-insulin-fat-tissue category. Just ignore the part about my personal health.

I agree with your main point, but I just wanted to list all the variations. I realize there's a lot of overlap in these theories and they are not meant to be mutually exclusive.
