Hi everyone! I am new to low carbing but not to weight loss. I usually calorie count but that always leaves me hungry and has been hard to do since I met my husband 5-6 years ago (he's a big guy who likes to eat).

We've been TTC our entire 4 years of marriage. About a two years in I lost 50 lbs calorie counting (240 was my high weight) and he lost over 100 on Atkins (he was over 400 lbs, he's now 340 so he did not gain all his weight back either). However then my husband got really sick and we both went off diets and our weight slowly climbed. I hung unto just around 200 (a little above or below depending on the day) for a long time but then we started actual fertility treatments last fall and I ballooned up to 225 after several IUIs and one IVF. Our first IVF was successful in that I got pregnant but it was/is an ectopic pregnancy. I had to have 2 methotrexate shots and I'm still waiting for my beta to get to 0 so technically I'm still pregnant I guess. Oh and we have severe male factor (like 0 to a few thousand per analysis which is why IVF with ICSI worked and nothing else has). According to all the specialists there is nothing 'wrong' with me but losing weight can only help matters.

Anyway because of the methotrexate shots we have a forced break of at least 3 months. We decided to take these 3 months and focus on our health. I had read that eating high protien helps with egg development so I knew I wanted to try low carb. I debated between South Beach and Atkins but since DH wanted to do Atkins I thought that would be easier since South Beach is low fat and Atkins is high fat.

I am on day 3 of induction now and I have already lost 1.2 lbs! And I am not starving on this diet! So far its going great. I hope I can keep it up.

I thought I'd join you girls to see who here used low carb to help them successfully conceive and then did you transition to higher carb when you got pregnant? I would just think things like morning sickness would need crackers and other high carb things. lol

I haven't read through all these posts yet but I will. I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
