The company's probably just covering themselves legally in case you have a medical problem that goes undiagnosed by taking Metamucil. It's very safe.

Myself, I prefer a more natuaral option than Metamucil. I just get a bag of pure psyllium husks at my HFS and mix it with at least 8 oz water in a shakeable cup. You MUST drink it IMMEDIATELY and you MUST follow it with at least 8 oz of water to make sure the husks don't stick in the throat.

But Metamucil is fine as long as you stay away from the products containing aspartame.

Another option is something like the Flax o Meal products which are breakfast cereals that are very high in fiber.
